The video is a TED talk by the name ‘Rethinking Health, Wellness & Aging in America Today,’ which Clay DeStefano delivered. The engaging and educative talk presents a deeper understanding of the topics of health, wellness, and aging. The audience is challenged to explain their present health status by using a fast-paced checklist and then being motivated to work towards a healthy 100 via encouraging, real-world example of exceptionally energetic and healthful seniors. DeStefano’s career in the healthcare industry is exciting to me because he advocates for change for the better, which is very important in our lives. As a person who loves positive change, this video has inspired me to be more active.

What

The issue is that people choose not to take care of themselves, and then different problems catch up with them, including premature aging and lifestyle conditions. The video seeks to educate people on the importance of keeping fit and maintaining healthy lifestyles for a better future. I have never considered being physically active or watching my diet, or generally adjusting my lifestyle. This video has changed my perspective on health, wellness, and aging. I take the message seriously, and I am looking forward to improving my lifestyle. Currently, there are many cases of diseases connected to people’s lifestyles. This video is meant to help individuals reevaluate their lives through inspiration and encouragement from others who have managed to live healthy lives.

Impact

            DeStefano’s goal is to enlighten people of different ages that they can live healthy lives and take charge of their well-being if they chose to. Additionally, he points out that aging is a natural process that can be slowed down through physical activity and healthy lifestyles. From DeStefano’s lecture, I have learned that aging can be slowed down, and age is not a hindrance to living a healthy life. It is, therefore, not too early or too late to start a journey of change. One of the most interesting quotes from the video is, ‘today we know that for most people genetics loads the gun, lifestyle pulls the trigger.’ This means that the choices we make every day have a significant influence on our health and well-being.

Take-Home Message

From this lecture, I have learned that for one to live a healthy lifestyle, he/she has to avoid making excuses for choices that deteriorate their health and well-being. Many people make excuses to justify their unhealthy lifestyles. Most importantly, day-to-day activities and decisions are the main determinants of our health and aging process. Therefore, I now know that I am in charge of my lifestyle that will determine my current and future well-being. This is the message DeStefano wants to pass to his audience all over the world. There is nothing that can limit an ordinary person from living healthy and avoiding various lifestyle conditions.

Healthful Living Goal

            From next week, I intend to engage in physical activity for 30 minutes every day. I want to shed off 20 pounds of weight toward achieving my fitness goal. Additionally, I intend to cut down on my calorie intake to lose weight. In the long term, my goal is to live a healthier lifestyle and slow my aging process and attain physical and emotional well-being.

Recommendation

I would recommend Clay DeStefano for future classes because I find him hilarious and exciting to listen to. He is a great speaker and has an easy time passing a message to the audience. Secondly, I would also recommend the topic of health and wellness since it affects everyone, and people need to be educated to make better choices. Therefore, my recommendation is 10 – high (100%).
