Violent Media is Good for Kids

“Violent Media is Good for Kids” is an article by Gerald Jones on the issue of children and the use of media. According to Gerald Jones, children can positively use violent media to learn how to control their rage as well as gaining confidence. Some of the violent media include bloody videogames and toy guns. The choice by Jones to his own childhood experience reinforces the argument that Jones intends to pass. The opinion presented by Gerald Jones is sensitive and contradicts the views of several parents hence the choice of the article.

After reading the article on violent media, the first impression is to agree with Jones’ argument. Violent media, like any other form of media, has both negative and positive impacts. If used positively, violent media can help children in becoming fearless and confident in life. The detrimental use of violent media on the other side may bring out violent children who do not show respect to humanity. Generally, the impact of violent media on children is dependent on the way parents are involved in guiding their children.

Gerald Jones uses Hulk as a fictional character who gives violent media a positive impression. The author admits to growing self-assured and confident after watching Hulk. Also, the author argues that Tarzan comics helped his child to overcome the fear of climbing trees. Therefore, Gerald Jones has all the reasons to stand by his argument concerning violent media.

Several memorable sentences bring out the argument posed by Jones. For example, Gerald Jones recalls how he had suffocated his deepest fears and desires under a nice-boy persona (Jones, 497). The protection that parents have on children against violent media turns out to be the reason children are fearful and lack confidence. Therefore, Gerald Jones is determined to pick the positive side of the violent media story.

In sum, the opinion presented by Gerald Jones is sensitive and contradicts the views of several parents hence the choice of the article. If used positively, violent media can help children in becoming fearless and confident in life. Generally, Gerald Jones is determined to pick the positive side of the violent media story.
