Week 2 Health Assessment
The additional assessment data that I would like to gather from Maria is whether her family has history of obesity. Apart from that, I would also like to know whether she has enrolled in any form of physical fitness that may help in cutting weight, such as aerobics and gymnasium. These two main assessments will help in advising Maria on what to do. For instance, if she has not enrolled for regular physical exercise that can help in cutting weight, I would advise that she considers such.
From the case study, the health concern is that of weight gain. On the other hand, one of the risk factors that is evident in the case study is that of eating a lot. Eating too much without engaging in regular exercise may lead to weight gain. The other risk factor identified is that of taking diet cola, which is known to be low in calories. The uptake of diet cola can lead to weight gain.
There are various opportunities that Maria can use to promote health and wellness, and one of these is considering walking for some distance rather than commuting the whole hour. This will help in weight reduction. The other opportunity is that now that Maria likes cooking, she should take advantage of this and consider preparing healthy foods.
The actual nursing diagnosis for Maria can be written as follows:
(r/t) x factor/cause
(20/98.6) x (148/90) or (88).
