What is flmodafinil?

Flmodafinifil (C15H13F2NO2S) is a bisflouro analogue of Modafinil. It is given for the treatment of extreme sleep disorder associated with narcolepsy, obstructive sleep disorder, or shift work sleep disorder.

Flmodafinil like its counterpart Modafinil can be used for psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children. These uses are, however, not its official use but are classified as off-label use.

The exact mode of action of Modafinil is not known. However, it is thought to act in the brain where acts by either stimulating the excitatory neurotransmitters that increase the level of alertness or by reducing the production of inhibitory neurotransmitters.

The closest hypothesis that tries to explain the mode of action of Flmodafinil is its structural similarity to orexin. Orexin is a hypothalamic neuropeptide involved in the sleep-wake cycle. Orexin is stimulatory in nature. Recent studies have also shown that Flmodafinil is a dopamine receptor blocker, thus stimulates wakefulness and alertness.

Flmodafinil is classified as a nootropic agent and a eugeroic. It is taken as a supplement. The cognitive and physical effects of Flmodafinil are to boost the overall performance, prevention of fatigue, enhance memory capability, and affect the sleep-wake cycle. A recent study has shown that most students who are taking demanding courses in the universities tend to abuse Modafinil, especially during the exam period.

Flmodafinil vs Modafinil.

According to the reviews, Flmodafinil is a new and improved version of Modafinil. It is believed to have a faster onset of action and fewer side effects compared to Modafinil. The two additional fluoro groups enhance the potency of Flmodafinil by making Flmodafinil more lipophilic. It will, therefore, more readily cross the blood-brain barrier to act in its receptor site in the brain.

Moreover, the bisfluoro group increases the duration of action of Modafinil by reducing the available sites for enzymatic interactions with the metabolizing enzyme.

Flmodafinil Side Effects.

The use of Flmodafinil is associated with headache, nausea, vomiting, nervousness, and dizziness. These effects may progress to cause more serious effects such as hallucination, depression, mood changes, irregular heartbeats, and in worst-case scenario suicidal thoughts. If such symptoms occur, it is of paramount importance to inform your physician or pharmacist right away.

Despite the benefits associated with Flmodafinil, Modafinil is effective at relatively lower dosages. Modafinil tablets are given as 200 mg tablets once a day. This dose is effective, safe, and long-lasting. The benefits of Flmodanifil are only hearsay from online users. Its a relatively new drug in the market and it can not be said with certainty that it is better than Modafinil.

Flmodfanil is a drug that was recently discovered and patented in 2013. By 2015, it was undergoing the Phase 2 clinical trials. Since its a newly discovered novel structure in the market and its rights have been patented, it is currently quite expensive compared to Modafinil. Whereas, Modafinil has been in the market since 1997. It has been tried and tested.

Flmodafinil should be stored in a medicine cabinet that is not in the reach of children or pets. It should be stored at room temperature, preferably away from moisture and light.

Rebound hypersomnia (rebound excessive sleep) and withdrawal symptoms may occur upon sudden withdrawal of Flmodafinil. Allergies to Flmodafinil are rare, but in case they happen, they present as an itch, redness, and inflammation of the skin and the lymph nodes and difficulties in breathing. Be on the lookout in case this happens and inform your physician so that there can be a change in the medications prescribed.

Individuals with allergies to Modafinil, manic behaviour, psychotic disorders, depression, heart conditions like angina, left ventricular valve hypertrophy, and mitral valve prolapse syndrome is not advised to take Flmodafinil. Patients with reduced liver or kidney function may take Modafinil if the benefits outweigh the risk. However, they should be closely monitored for any sing of Flmodafinil-toxicity or overdose.

Flmodafinil is associated with drug abuse and addiction, especially for persons with a history of substance abuse. It is recommended that this drug be given only when prescribed by a doctor or a physician. Patients should take their medications as instructed. Its high propensity to cause addiction is thought to be associated with its amphetamine-like properties.

In case of an overdose due to Flmodafinil, the patient presents with intense muscle trembling, and they may experience some difficulty in breathing. Call 911 for ambulatory emergency services as this may propagate to become a life-threatening condition. Addicts should enrol in Rehabilitation centres or join local programs that will help them overcome their addiction.
