What is granite stone cookware?
Most people are now looking for healthy alternatives for everything, including pans. We are not only focused on prolonging our lives by eating healthy but also to protect the environment and mother nature generally. Teflon-coated pans or most non-stick pans have recently been preached against as they cause specific health issues. Granite stone pan has taken over the market, and a late-night commercial must have smitten you, and you are now thinking of purchasing one. In this article, we are breaking down everything you should know about granite rock pans. Let’s get started!
What is granite stone cookware?
Granite stone/rock pans are advertised as an industrial grade, non-stick cooking pans. The pans are made using high-grade quality aluminum material for excellent heat conductivity. The pan’s surface is then made using a triple layer of food-grade granite layers for the non-sticky nature. The coating is responsible for oil-free cooking superiority. The product also boasts of being metal utensil safe, meaning you can use metal spoons and spatulas in the cooking without scratching.
The pans do not warp, unlike some of the pans made from a different metal. As the manufacturer claims, the cookware is so tough you can abuse them using rocks and hammers, but they won’t scratch or bend. The name is derived from the granite coating, which defines the aesthetics of the pan. The granite used in the top layer of the pan is inert to a specific temperature. Therefore, it will not chip easily or react to your food when exposed to high temperatures.
Granite stone cookware is dishwasher safe, so you can throw your pans in the dishwasher after dinner instead of washing them by hand. The pan comes with three buying options: granite rock, granite stone, and granite stone diamond, which are the first, second, and third generations, respectively.
How does granite stone pans work?
Oils and fats are not the healthiest components of a diet, and eliminating them gives a better chance at healthy living. Utensils that allow you to cook with less oil have therefore become a gem. A granite stone pan is non-sticky, meaning it requires using little or no fat in cooking. The pan is made using three layers of coating to achieve the non-stick function. The aluminum material used is also solid, meaning you don’t have to worry about scratching the pan no matter what utensils you use.
How to use a granite rock pan?
Theta is no limit to what you can do with this pan. The first thing I wanted to try with it is to cook an egg, as seen in the advertisement. You can also use the pan in stir-frying, cooking veggies, making pancakes, frying meat, and fish, etc. It’s safe for use in frying, baking, searing and sautéing. Kits also oven-safe with a heat limit of 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The best part about this pan is you can use as little oil as possible or none at all, as advertised. The manufacturer states that no oil or butter is needed, and the non-stick surface will have your egg sliding off. Talk about healthy at its finest!
Should you use granite stone pans?
While the granite stone pan sounds like a spot on, there are many controversies around it. The pans are advertised as PFOA free in the coating. However, all pans are PFOA free since the element was phased out of the manufacturing process due to the harmful side effects. So, does that mean it’s safe?
Even though granite rock cookware is PFOA-free, we cannot be sure of its safety. The non-stick coating in the pans is not outrightly stated. Also, all non-stick coatings contain PFTE in their coating. They will be advertised as PFOA-free to downside the PFTE they contain.
The granite rock pan reviews we found online are also not very encouraging. Most users complain that the pan is not really as advertised. Food particles stuck to the pan, unlike seen on the ads. People were also displeased that you actually needed to use oil or butter, unlike seen in the advertisement. Most also complained about the handle, which is very uncomfortable to hold. The non-stick coating was also found to scratch easily despite the manufacturer’s assertion that the pans were metal utensil safe. The pans were also not as durable as claimed and could not withstand the harsh abuse. The base of the pan also absorbs oil making it very challenging to clean.
However, some reviews on the pan were actually positive, stating that most features of the pan are as advertised. Another turn-off is that the manufacturer does not explain the difference between the three coatings used in granite stone pans. They are all priced, and the manufacturer reserves the right to sell any of the types on order. You may order granite rock and receive granite diamond as the manufacturer deems fit.
Granite stone pans are however, affordable. They are low-end non-stick pans that are reasonably priced if you are on a budget. They are also very lightweight for easy lifting and cooking.
Conclusion
Granite stone pans seem like the perfect pans to beat unhealthy eating. The cherry on the ice-cream is the pocket-friendly price tag, and everything about it from the advertisement screams Buy! Buy! Buy! However, a little research and you will discover the high complaint rate on these pans. If you also think about it, the advertisement hype sounds too good to be true. It can be a daunting decision to make since there are conflicting reviews on the internet. Its however, a little risky to buy given the high complaint rate. However, since the pans are reasonably priced, it would not be much of a loss.
We would however, not recommend the pan since it does not meet the quality standards it claims. The manufacturer has tried to incorporate the latest technology by tripling the granite stone layer and using a food-grade aluminum disc. However, this pan does not meet the durability and safety you are looking for. There are better alternatives in the market that are worth your hard-earned money!
