“What makes an entrepreneur” is the title of Ted Talk by Sahar Hashemi. In this talk, she tells the audience her entrepreneurial journey. Which is faced with a lot of challenges but, in the end, succeeded. According to Sahar, some factors make up an entrepreneur, and anybody can become one regardless of their background (TEDx Talks, 2014). For instance, she was a lawyer, but that didn’t define his future business success. She advises that for one to be a successful entrepreneur, the secret is not to give up despite the challenges that come with it. For her, people discouraged him, and banks declined her proposal, but they never gave up on their idea. Any successful business started with a design that was researched thoroughly and gaps found. Later, a business plan was made, and money raised. All these activities require patience and persistence.
Some attributes make up an entrepreneur. First, an entrepreneur is vision-driven to convince people and investors to join you (Jabbour, 2018). The mission of whatever is tabled must be easy to understand and straight to the point. Secondly, creativity defines an entrepreneur. Creativity is what visualizes the unique features that a business will have. Thirdly, creativity without passion will see a business fail. The self-motivation to keep moving forward is what will determine an entrepreneur. This attribute can be achieved only through discipline and principles. Lastly, to become a successful business owner, one has to build products with the end-users in mind. To accomplish this, before a product is released, many entrepreneurs opt to do surveys. The survey’s primary goal is to get the feel of the population. This aspect is an essential tool in evaluating what clients/customers want.
WhatsApp was built by Jan Koum and later sold to Facebook for $19 billion. The founder inspired by Yahoo built, and by 2014, it had become popular around the world (DeMers, 2017). The founder, despite his living conditions having come from a humble village in Ukraine, became successful by believing in his skills. In conclusion, skills are also essential in entrepreneurship. Skills are acquired through intensive research. The research will also unravel gaps that are in the business idea in mind and will, in return, help one in making the right decisions when making business plans.
