You are a department head & you are to hire 5 new staff in the next 30 – 90 days. What processes would you put in place to get the best from the market? & make sure they are a good fit for your company
Hiring is hard; finding the right employee can make or break a company. I will, therefore, be vigilant in making decisions on who to hire. Below are the strategies I will incorporate when hiring.
- Ask My Existing Employees and Customers for Referrals
Referrals are a decent approach to screen prospective applicants even before interviewing them. The company’s current employees can be used as a means of sourcing for new hires. I will also request people in my network to refer me to prospective employees. These kinds of referrals tend to boost the morale of employees as well as retention rates. When hiring a new arrival, there is less certainty about a candidate’s work ethic and their potential to fit on the team.
- Write an Intriguing Job Description:
Employment boards are jam-packed with thousands of openings, and it is, therefore, difficult to stand out. Great job descriptions do more than list employee requirements and responsibilities; they articulate a story about organizations and offer the candidates a glimpse of the future and their roles in it. I will write specific and reasonable job descriptions while avoiding the overuse of use jargon, buzzwords, and cliche when writing the description.
I will list the position’s benefits that will pique the interest of potential employees, for example, health insurance, paid time off, and saving for retirement are key deciding factors in accepting a position. I will also specify the salary or salary range. High-quality candidates typically know precisely what they want, so stating the figures will help attract them.
The Interview
Through using an applicant’s resume and one on one interview, I will get to learn a candidate’s personality, goals, and aspirations. I will check the candidate’s past employment history. It is essential to look for someone with a commitment to their career. If a candidate keeps changing the company, the person may not be loyal to any company, and hiring this person could be a problem for my business.
Test for Excellent Learning and Analytical Skills
A candidate may have a great resume and confidence, but I will use different methodologies to evaluate the learning and analytical skills of my candidates. The company needs a candidate that has the right skills and educational requirements.
Check Compatibility
A good hire is one who can fit into the company’s culture. I will check whether the employee has the right social skills to get along with his/her colleagues and managers. If a person cannot get along with his or her current clients or previous bosses, it’s not such a great idea to hire that candidate.
In conclusion, a good hiring process is crucial in finding the right fit for my company. The above strategies will lead me to find the right employees.
