Why Abraham Lincoln was revered in Mexico?

Abraham Lincoln was revered in Mexico for several reasons. Simple and noble actions indeed remain as part of your history. Abraham Lincoln was a true statesman, his efforts to make sure that the human race had a better life not only in the United States but also in Mexico was the noblest idea that the Mexicans cherished.  This paper expounds on the reasons why Abraham Lincoln is revered in the southern nation of the United States.

Abraham Lincoln’s stand at the congress against the Mexican war was held with high regard by the Mexican people.  As a freshman in the congress representing the people of Illinois, Abraham opposed the United States and Mexico war. According to Lincoln, United States wrongfully accused Mexico and there was no justification to wage a war between the two countries. In 1846 the United States invaded Mexico claiming that the American blood was shed in the American soil by the Mexicans. The land in question was south Texas which at that point never belonged to any nation therefore according to Lincoln, the ten American presidents; James K. Polk was instigating a war without proper justification.  Lincoln in the congress questioned the constitutionality under which president Polk used to wage a war and he requested to be shown the spot where blood was shed. However, these arguments did not auger well with his constituency but the Mexicans looked up to him as a hero. The Mexicans regarded him as their savior since he stood against the un-thoughtful Mexican invasion and he tirelessly called for the war to be called off.

Secondly, Lincoln’s support for the democrat reformist Benito Juarez resonated well with the Mexicans.  The Mexicans were under the French regime which they considered brutal and with outward impunity devoured the Mexicans rights. Under Juarez whom the Mexicans believed that he would fight for their freedom back, they fought the French authoritarian rulers. Lincoln was friends with Juarez and for his love to see people have their democratic rights he supported the Mexicans by giving them grants that they used to pay off debts that they had accrued. Lincoln also provided them with fifty thousand men, who helped the Mexicans to fight the French emperor which was installed in Mexico.  Lincoln as well as provided the Mexicans with the best weapons which they used at war with the French. These, therefore, cemented the love of the Mexicans with Abraham Lincoln.

Furthermore, Lincoln’s commitment to ensure economic equality and stand against slavery gained him the love of the Mexican people.  Lincoln ensured that the Mexicans had railroads that helped boost the Mexican economy. He influenced the united states to donate to their southern neighbor’s grants which they used to build railroads. The railroads would be a big economic boost as the Mexican would transport their goods in time as well as being an employment opportunity for thousands of Mexicans. The Mexicans had abolished the slave trade in 1829 however, the French regime trampled upon this agreement. Lincoln went further by persuading the French rulers in Mexico to stop slavery since it was against international law. Lincoln also ensured that the Mexican people were empowered economically, for example, the rail project so that slavery would not catch up with them. With the simple acts of nobility, Lincoln is regarded highly in Mexico.

In conclusion, the simple but significant human noble actions can be a landmark for other humans. Lincoln perfected this especially with the Mexicans and hence he won their hearts. There are statues of Lincoln in Mexican cities, a foreign leader for that case just for the Mexicans to show how highly they regard him.
