Why are there more extroverts than introverts?
The famous psychologist Carl Jung divided the world’s population into two halves, i.e., one part of extroverts and another one of introverts. Did you know 25%-40% of the world’s population are introverts? Therefore, there are more extroverts than introverts, but why is this so? Let’s dig deep to understand the reasons:-
Education system:-
The first theory claims that it is due to peer pressure dragging the population to become extroverted.
The modern society of an individual puts him in a showbiz environment. For example, consider the case of an education system.
Introverts are someone who feels comfortable in remaining their skin. However, schools, today, grade their students on public speaking, extracurricular activities, sports, and games, which gives extroverts an edge among their introverted peers, and hence, pushes the introverts to become more open to their environment.
Carrier:-
According to a study conducted by the University of North Carolina, 96% of the executives and managers across the USA possess more extroverted characteristics.
Sales drive modern capitalistic economies, and interestingly, extroverts have a natural advantage over introverts in that division. Therefore, this becomes the second reason for why a person shall turn an extrovert.
People generally want their business heads to be more expressive. People want them to induce an aura of confidence. Extroverts have a manipulative capability that motivates others to work harder.
Morden CEOs have to face the press, give interviews, and promote products, a slight mistake in any of these things can cost billions to the business. How is this related to introverts and extroverts?
Some researchers say that apart from behavioral differences, there is a biological difference between the two extremes – the dopamine effect. Dopamine is a rewarding hormone, which makes one feel energetic and excited.
Extroverts have more dopamine generated when they get into the public as compared to introverts. On the other hand, introverts lose the energy and enthusiasm. They get nervous, and psychology says, nervousness slows the signaling between two neurons into the brain.
Therefore, it is the only extrovert that can handle such pressure; hence, it becomes like a rule to remain more extroverted for becoming more successful.
We all know Steve jobs, but do you know Steve Wozniak?
No? Well, he is the technical head of Apple!
Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak together started the Apple corporation, which became the first company to cross a trillion-dollar valuation on the US stock market. Steve Wozniak, an introvert, was the technical head and the brains behind the Apple computer.
Conclusion
Most people are not introverts or extroverts when they are born; they become one according to their social conditioning and aptitude.
Our society has a bias towards extroverts, and people are driven towards it to fit in.
However, if we say that there are more extroverts, it would also not be reasonably correct, because studies say that the chances of a person being purely an extrovert or introvert are meager. Why? It is because most of the time, people feel comfortable to remain between the two extremes.
