February 2020 Job Report

During the first week, I was introduced to the schools we work with. Then I had to follow up with the programs the schools have to ensure our students were engaged in some activity. Additionally, I requested the schools to be releasing the kids early for them to have enough time to do their homework at the project and share the snack offered.

In the following week, I had meetings with parents. The goal was to encourage them to support the course of the project actively. Besides, I tried to identify their need level. The meetings were also a chance to know the current residence of the students and their family structure.

The other achievement during the week was admitting Mercy and Sarah to Olympic High School. Though the students are on the process of going to study in Portugal, it was necessary to admit them to local schools. The reason was to avoid conflict with the local authority, as the students are expected to be in school, and also to keep the academically active.

After the admission, I embarked on following up with their documentation. I took Sarah, police clearance form to the Portugal Embassy in Kenya. I also took the mother to a lawyer to sign a minor consent form. In the case of Mercy, I followed up with the challenge on her passport. The decision was to wait for the re-application of her birth certificate, which will provide the aid in correcting the errors made during passport application.

Besides those activities, I have been involved in evening activities and, in some cases, checking the homework for the kids, and monitoring the time the teachers and students report. I have also followed up and solved a few cases the schools had with our students. For example, there was discipline concern in Red Rose against Silas, and I followed up and cleared the matter with the school.
