Women Battering
There are various reasons as to why men become violent towards their partners. In ordinary cases, it is attributed to alcohol and other substance abuse. Dealing with men who batter can be a hard nut to crack. They may turn violent towards you as well as they are still in denial. In this case, it is wise to learn the best approach to employ to get to them without feeling attacked.
As a leader of a court-ordered group of men, I would start the session with a song familiar to all members to clear the air. I would give each member a chance to introduce themselves. They’d say a bit about themselves and what they want to achieve by the end of the counseling (Sowan-Basheer, 2020). I would take note of every member as they speak, and where necessary, I’d ask questions. After the introduction, I’d give each member a questionnaire, and a pen with essential questions prepared earlier to gather information.
Dealing with a group of men who differ in opinions and beliefs can be difficult. Therefore, to promote ambivalence, I would give them time to express themselves as I take notes without interrupting. I will shun judgemental statements and avoid coercing them into any action or line of thought.
Relating with their stories would come in handy as a way to promote empathy and autonomy, I would use a projector to show them testimonials of transformed men who have undergone the same counseling as them. The affidavits would boost their confidence and hope in changing their behavior. It can be difficult for men to accept their weaknesses. Therefore it would be critical. To build rapport and cohesiveness, I would acknowledge the strengths of every member and support their personality.
In the end, I would ask everyone to give their experience and what they would wish done to improve the productivity of progressive sessions.
