Writer’s Block

Writer’s block is a problem that always affects writers and can be defined as a formidable feeling of having difficulty in stating or continuing with their writing. To control writer’s block is a process influenced by the individual entirely though some tools and steps can help a writer in the process.

The major sources of Writer’s Block

Writer’s block is caused by several factors that are majorly associated with the individual; some writers believe that the effect is due to lack of content which s basically not the reason.

A research conducted by Singer and Barrios (1970) found out that self-doubt is definitely a primary factor in a writer’s block problem. On the other side, Singer and Barrios (1970) found out that writers’ block is a result of:

Apathy where different writers had a concern about the rules and regulations guiding the writing profession, and some found it difficult to get to their creative spark.

Anger. Writers needed recognition and could feel angered if their work is not recognized or their creation is unfairly noticed.

Anxiety; some writers felt they were not up to the task or fit enough to implement the job they’re working on.

Personal relations. Conducting a comparison between the creations or writing from different writers was the least expected by the individuals since it causes fear and increases self-distrust.

To overcome writer’s block, the following procedures can be very important and of great impact:

Some of the recommended exercises that can help a writer overcome writer’s block include the;
Pomodoro technique

Be sure of what you want to write, either a chapter of a novel, a scene in a play, or just a page freely written, then set a timer for up to around 25 minutes. Without stopping until the timer rings and this will help stimulate ideas. You can have a break for around five minutes, then repeat the process carefully considering the timing.

The half an hour challenge

Take around 30 minutes to plan and write down the day programs. When you realize there is less time, write down the major distractors and select how you can overcome or remove the distractors. An example, computer distracts you? Avoid it totally by trying to go manual. Do the practice later after removing distractions following the technics researched. Repeat the process until an ideal space for writing is found.

Talking to a friend technic challenge.

Writers sometimes get help up with the regulations guiding the writing process from a piece of nonfiction writing, article writing, or novel. In controlling this, you can pretend to be holding a conversation with a friend at a restaurant narrating your story’s scene.  You can compose email messages or text messages communicating to a friend, and you can include the useful texts in the draft.

Question 2

Memo to the writers

To write an effective memo that will influence change or help implement the guideline to ensure efficiency and effectiveness, the memo should be real or clear, polite, and to the point, by being clear means that the target audiences can thoroughly understand the memo. A polite memo does not insert force and fear in the workers’ lives but creates an environment of consensus between the employees and their boss, to the point document points on the major issues being addressed without a blink.

To expect the employees to start working by 8 A.M. or changing their work routine, the memo must give concrete benefits of starting early or explaining the impacts of commencing the jobs at 8 A.M. and not 11 A.M. as before.

The memo may start with salutation to prevent some sense of arrogancy; then, the manager can appreciate the workers’ effort and the work they are doing before getting to the main point.

The expectations that the memo should indicate before the beginning of the activity can include;

  1. Setting goals and developing a routine should be an immediate consideration each day, and each project indicates its impacts.

      ii.            Learning to make time for the project and not find a time set. This increases the productivity rate and time speed by which the projects are completed.

    iii.            The memo should address the employees’ most creative and productive time of day to do the job. This can be achieved by determining the employee’s personal preferences and setting the best time in the routine to do the jobs.

    iv.            The memo should contain procedures that can help employees set their commitments verbally or written; this helps in setting and sticking to a set routine with an unwavering commitment to achieving the set goals.

Question 3

Some of the mistakes that trip writers up before publishing or sharing their work are majorly not grammar-related issues. These issues can be;

        i.            Writing Many Projects at once

It is harder to maintain a consistent writing routine when a writer has opened many writing projects since there will be distractions generated from the many projects. This will delay your production, which in turn delays the feeling of finishing a project.

As a writer, I majored on a single project to avoid confusion and maintain focus on the project, which indeed increased the speed of completing y work.

      ii.            Poorly arranged ideas.

Randomly jumping from one idea to another is the primary time-wasting process that will not allow you to manage your time well and pursue concrete ideas to conclude your project. The project requires capturing, sorting, and reviewing systems to manage the ideas regularly to finish on time. From you can single out the idea to work on. To overcome this problem, I learned how to program, select and arrange my work to avoid extra mistakes and errors.

    iii.            Skipping A Proofread

It is better to automate the error checking process using software like a spell checker. But it is highly recommended to work with proofreaders in projects that take longer, like a book, since they are able to spot missed out issues. Employing a proofreader is one of the major solutions I used to help curb this problem before signing off the project completion.

Mistakes

Some of the writing profession’s known mistakes can be grammatical errors and spelling mistakes or clunky language and passive voice problems. A project that does not fulfill the readers’ need or goal can also be described as having mistaken or entirely wrong. Other writing weaknesses that can be perceived to be common are incorrect punctuations, complicated language, instances of passive voice, and unnecessary words. These can be described as the major weaknesses of a writing project or what can make writing projects miss out on the intended purpose.

A writing project can be said to be strong or effective if it is able to fulfill the intended purpose, and that is invoking the audience’s reactions toward the content. Basically, this can be achieved by revealing individual consent or perspective about the topic and by story-telling.
