The Future of Communication
Most organizations have discovered that information is powerful, and they have embraced technology in information delivery. New technologies are also underway, and it is expected that they will have great impacts on the future of communication. Besides changing what people can do with the information, the new technologies will also change the delivery of information and the behaviour of individuals and organizations towards communication. The internet of things is, for example, an important feature that will impact the direction of information delivery. RFID (radio frequency identification) and wireless communications will in the feature enable industries and organizations to track physical objects such as car parts. This technology is currently being tried by Walmart. It is also expected that the Universal Product Code will be replaced by the RFID. Soon, organizations will have the ability to remotely monitor and track almost everything. This technology is already in existence, but many organizations are not ready to use them.
Newtorkcentric operations are also expected to transform the feature of information delivery. High-speed data access, network devices and standardized communication protocols will soon make it easy to exploit, collect, create and distribute across heterogeneous computing environment. Self-synchronizing systems will in the feature be used to accelerate responsiveness by eliminating the lags associated with OODA (observe-orient-decide-act) loops. This means that organizations will in the feature use information to enhance self-synchronization so as to enable the coordination of complex activities and to inform their workforces. It is also expected that information systems in the feature will enable organizations to mine data from informal information. Informal information management is still a new concept that is not yet explored fully, but it does have a pool of untapped information. IT managers are currently paying attention to this field.
