The importance of sustainable development goals
Sustainable development goals are global universal goals designed to be a “blueprint to attain a sustainable future. Moreover, these sustainable development goals are a collection of seventeen global goals used by the UN members to formulate and develop their agendas. The main global goals that are at the forefront of being implemented by these members include but not limited to; “No poverty,” Zero Hunger, Good Health, Quality Education as well as Gender Equality. According to UNESCO and Sustainable Development Goals (2020), these goals works towards forming both a program of sustainable and ambitious development and a program of the people by the people and for the people. Most notably, the main importance of the sustainable development goals is basically to combat or rather to address the pressing environmental, political, and economic challenges that often affects most countries across the globe. UNESCO and Sustainable Development Goals (2020) explicitly illustrates that the environmental political and economic challenges which include (Quality education poverty hunger clean water as well as gender equality) are vital issues that affect most countries; this, therefore, calls for well-outlined plans or goals such as the SDG to address it. In a nutshell, it is no exaggeration that these sustainable development goals have gone far in as much as combating these challenges is concerned.
how a greater appreciation and understanding of all cultures would help to achieve these goals
A greater (appreciation and understanding of all cultures) is a prudent aspect that helps in achieving the SDGs. It is interesting to note that languages are critical markers of the vitality of cultural diversity, and therefore appreciating and understanding these cultures helps in achieving SDG’s goals in many ways. The most important way is that by understanding all cultures, “empowerment” becomes possible. Through empowerment, people become aware of their own rights, which prompts them to make their own decisions. The recognition of the traditional communities’ ability to combat poverty through solidarity, for example, demonstrates the importance of appreciation and understanding of cultures. In addition, it also helps in achieving some measure of harmony; say, for example, the whale in the US is against the international community regarding the idea of safeguarding endangered species. Moreover, it helps in restoring the pride of individuals and communities, more specifically the indigenous and the vulnerable groups. Finally, understanding cultural diversity not only nurtures a culture of human rights and reduces poverty but also promotes human-centered and equitable development.
