What is the Proper Role of the Government
The question of the proper role of the government has been a contentious issue that has attracted debate among distinct philosophers. It is an issue that has attracted different interpretations and arguments, with different people arguing from different perspectives. The job of government in our general public can’t be overemphasized, and the legislature as a seat of power where rules and laws are built up balanced and executed has been in presence over a long time. In different divisions of the general public, the government has a significant task to carry out, beginning from the law-making, training, industrialization, innovation, transportation, social enhancements improvement, work creation, wellbeing segment, among other roles. Therefore the role of the government cannot be outlined singly (Warner 2001, p.189). However, it can be described as a multi-disciplinary institute that controls and protects the people. The government has the epitome task of control; therefore, it constitutes a group of individuals that have the authority to control the rest of the citizens. Nonetheless, this paper is aimed at clearly outlining the proper role of the government.
Scholars have battled with deciding the correct position of the government. Without government and legislation, individuals could do anything they desired, and some of them would attempt to butcher others and take their property. This is the state called turmoil. Individuals have understood that the wellbeing of the individuals and the nation would be in peril in such a state. In this way, it is important for a nation to have an administration as well as a ruler. Be that as it may, a ruler must not have supreme force nor need authority. In this case, the security of the individuals and the nation alone isn’t sufficient for a nation to succeed. The property and the common privileges of the individuals and the legislature should likewise be secured. Along these lines, the best possible job of the government is to secure the individuals’ normal rights, their property, and the individuals themselves. The government has the ultimate role of protecting its citizens. The government protects its citizens through the distinct institutions that it has established. The government, as it entails the three arms, its major role is to uphold, protect, and safeguard the lives of the people. The arm on legislation that is in charge of making laws protects the people through the constitutions. The legislation arm makes and amends laws that bestow order in the country. The government protects its citizens through the institution of police that is mandated with maintaining law and order (Shaw 2001). The institution protects people from both internal and external aggression. It achieves protection from external aggression through agencies such as the national defense wing that majorly consists of the military experts. The government also facilitates equality by promoting the justice and equality of the people. As a result, the government establishes justice through the judicial system as a way to facilitate equality and justice to the citizens.
Governments give the lawful and social system in showcase economies by setting up and securing the rights to private property and to the monetary additions got from the utilization of that property. In conclusion, the proper role of the government is to provide and control essential services that are too critical to be left to the private sector. It ensures equality through the provision of services such as medical services and management of disasters, that if they were solely left to the private sector, then the poor citizens would lack access. Similarly, it regulates the country’s economy through the central banks that facilitate the distribution of money. The government has the main role of being the custodian of the state assets; therefore, it manages them through the various ministries and the cabinet secretaries. Through such state agencies, the government is able to handle its roles properly, such as law-making, implantation, maintaining of social order, creation of employment opportunities, and provision of social amenities like education, transport, security, and health. Therefore, it would be very right to argue that the proper role of the government is to be the chief custodian of the state through the provision, protection, and regulation of the essential products.
