My Peculiar Benefits
A privilege is an exclusive right or advantage granted or available only to a particular person or group. It is worth to note every person has a privilege. Some though, feel that they have more privilege, especially the working-class people and the white people, which amounts to racial discrimination. But according to the above definition, the assumption that they take about their well-being or being wealthy is proven wrong. There is a long list of privileges but my discussion basically majors on the following privileges: the privilege to being born physically and mentally fit, being able to read and write, being able to meet my basic needs, ability to access the technology, freedom to make own choices and decisions, recognizing and embracing personal happiness, ability to raise money and have aspirations in life.
It’s a privilege for every individual to be born physically and mentally fit. This being a privilege to most people and to be precise, everyone, it is also my pleasure to express my inner gratitude towards being physically and mentally fit. It is neither normal nor a guarantee to be born physically and mentally fit, but it is by grace, which is why this is considered a privilege. To clarify the previous statement, it worth noting that some people, for instance, are physically and mentally challenged. The ability to walk, touch, having sight, and to hear is unusual because some of the individuals do not enjoy this privilege. It is indeed vital to acknowledge being physically and mentally fit. Having this privilege has always inspired me in the pursuit of my future goals. Being mentality is also an advantage for me because it enhances my confidence and puts away the fear of not being hired or being fired in case I have a job.
Secondly, the ability to access all the basic needs is another great privilege one has to appreciate and acknowledge I being among such individuals who have this access should always be treasured. The basic needs are food, shelter and clothing. It is of much importance be born and raised in a family that is able to meet my basics needs. This has enabled me to be able to enjoy my childhood life. In addition being raised on such a family has as well made me to access the most important virtue in the society of getting education. In the current world people who have not got access to education are considered less privileged. This is so because it is believed that the only an individual can have knowledge and have an open mind is through schooling. I truly appreciate that I have never lacked my clothing, shelter and food. The person I am at the moment is because of my background that has been able to reach out to my basic needs. And with this I have no reason to deny that it is a privilege to have a family who meets my basics needs. It is not guaranteed to everyone to have such a privilege. Recent research has shown that some of the young people and children do not have access to basic needs. Such individuals who have been raised by these families have never had a sound growth and are exposed to bad conditions and thus become irresponsible.
Apart from the privilege of having an access to the basic needs, there are also other fields that I can access and some may not have the opportunity to access them. This is of course another privilege. The current world is driven by technology. This technology is not accessed by everyone in the world. As matter of fact some of the individuals have no idea about what technology probably because of the nature of the background they are raised in. This might as well be fueled failure to attain the primary knowledge which makes it hard for them to access and make use of the current technology. Even though some may have been able to access primary knowledge and have an idea of operating and accessing some of the technological machines they may have a limitation of being in remote areas where they cannot access and use the technology.
However, the education is considered paramount it is pointless when one has an access to it but cannot execute. It is important to note that if you have access to education, you as an individual should be able to read and right to executed it and bring good use of it. I may not have been able to read and write if it was not for the privilege of being raised in a family that provided everything including education. This privilege has indeed made me so ambitious and dedicated I can do several tasks as at the moment because of the ability of reading and writing. For instance, reading messages, journals, articles and so many other materials. Information can be picked from these materials make analysis from them and make interpretation when need be. Without the ability to read and write none of these tasks could be possible. Some people could consider ability of reading writing not to be a privilege but they rather consider it as something normal. Most of the great people in the world mostly the writers such as Haruki Murakami have been well known across the world due to their publications such as journals and articles which have attracted a lot of people across the world.
Freedom to make choices and decision to most people has just been taken lightly. Conversely, this is should not be taken lightly. It is indeed a privilege to have this freedom of making choices because people do make wrong decisions which could lead the to take poor choices. I have always been grateful that I have been able to make proper decisions and in turn proper choices. In addition, I have never regretted to have made poor choices because I truly believe that making appropriate choices and decision works hand in hand with being mentally fit. Furthermore, in connection to having freedom to make choices and decisions there is another great privilege should appreciate and really acknowledge it is the ability to recognize and embrace personal happiness. Personal happiness works together with ones hobbies, interests and ambitions. Happiness in life is a great value one should have because it makes people mentally fit and physically healthy. For instance being a computer wizard makes one to achieve the goals and life’s ambitions as well increases the interest of identifying new things and inventions. I do support this fact that recognizing and embracing happiness is a privilege because playing musical instruments to has lifted me higher and if has indeed me to access some musical instruments which I could not have been to access without embracing my happiness because music is always my source of happiness.
Lastly it is of significance to be able to raise money and have aspirations in life. Actually for one to raise money one should have an aspiration in life and as well an ambition. The two values are the key to meeting our desires of having wealth. It often considered that it is about planning for an individual to achieve goals or become wealthy but it is as well a privilege. Without this privilege, one may not be able to make a sound plans and one may simply end up in failing to achieve the desired goals. According to me and the views from various scholars it is indeed worthwhile to consider this virtue as a privilege because not everyone can raise money and meet the desired goals.
To my conclusion, if an individual can identify the privileges within them they can really achieve a lot in life and inspire many people. Joel Osteen who is a very powerful American preacher is at his best level of preaching and inspiring young people because he realized that bit was a privilege to be raised in a preacher’s family and he was as well able to embrace preaching. It is therefore and individual duty to make use of their privileges.
