Presidential Candidate: Joe Biden
Joe Biden, the former U.S. vice president, is a potential presidential candidate and likely incoming president of the United States. This happens to be his third attempt to seek the presidential seat in the United States (Cohn N.p). His first attempt was in 1988 under the Democratic Party where he is said to have been one of the strongest potential candidates of the times. He made a second comeback in 2008 still under the Democratic Party, where he basically focused on the war with Iraq and aimed at achieving political success through a federal system. Similar to his initial presidential bid, he could not gather enough support and endorsements from the U.S. citizens and ended up withdrawing from the race. Eventually, Barack Obama chose him as his running mate in 2008 where he became the 47th U.S. vice president (Arnold et al. N.p). It should be noted that Mr. Biden once declined to be a candidate in 2016 while he had higher chances of winning the presidential elections and succeeding Barack Obama, following his son’s demise. While he may have decided not to run for the presidential seat, it was clear that over the following years, he would stand up for the country and create a vision for the country’s future that would be all-inclusive.
Most notable is the transformation that Joe Biden happens to have undergone since 2009 when he became the U.S. vice president (Arnold et al. N.p). He has become a respected national figure—if we could say an entertainment figure—and popularly esteemed by his colleagues. He joined the 2019 race with very high recognition and has since maintained his numbers. From the beginning of his 2019 campaigns, he has been in most cases acknowledged as the frontrunner. Biden has topped in most of the national polls throughout 2019. Although he missed with a blink to be among the top three candidates in several cases through 2020, he has won a landslide victory on other occasions and this has significantly revived his campaigns. Mr. Biden has earned enough delegates to pull ahead of his competitor, Senator Bernie Sanders.
Mr. Biden is a strong and reasonable candidate. His strong arguments lie on the idea that our country has embarked on a radical experiment that has led to disastrous consequences. What the White House and the U.S. as a country needs most is a restoration of stability and integrity. This pandemic has made it clear that the existing government has little interest in coming up with an operative decision-making strategy. The existing government’s main intentions are to be reelected by some skeptical Americans. This has greater consequences than what we have already experienced since it is going to affect the reliability of our institutions, leaving the society at wars with itself all for the benefit of individual leaders.
Joe Biden describes himself as a link between moments and is more likely to follow Obama’s footsteps as an aspirational and unifying candidate in modern American politics. He looks forward to embodying Obama’s legacy. Mr. Biden plans to have two running mates: one to represent the Democratic Party likely future, and another one to summon its hopeful past is worthwhile. There has not been a presidential candidate who has shown his willingness to team up with a nominee as Mr. Biden has revealed. He believes that the country needs to be relieved of a familial doubt concerning the future and as well be constantly reminded of its past encounters. Mr. Biden believes that it is high time he ends the conflict-ridden partisan politics that are ripping the country apart. He constantly states that Republicans are not enemies but an opposition party.
In his debates, Mr. Biden has never laid out his decision in terms of how well the existing government is fairing, but as an interrogation of whether the existing government is exercising the causes that he considers as the core for a government such as global stability and upward economic mobility (Biden N.p). His other policy priorities include more funding for education, free college education, endorsement of the Equality act, the need for federation in foreign policy, a health insurance policy as a public option, legalization of cannabis, and a highly-funded climate plan that embraces the Green New Deal framework. Mr. Biden has avowed himself as the presidential candidate with the most open-minded record (Edward-Isaac Dovere N.p).
However, Joe Biden has received criticism in equal measure on his durability as a candidate—the durability of his support system (Edward-Isaac Dovere N.p), his association with the Americans, and with Barack Obama who happens to have is back. He has often been referred to as a “fragile” front runner with fewer chances of building a political momentum as the competition between him and Senator Bernie Sanders intensifies. This contradicts a recording on The Washington Post where Obama is heard referring to Biden as his best running mate. Obama is heard saying all the right things concerning Biden while in an effort to rally some influential Democrats around Biden’s presidential campaign. He declares himself to be fully invested in this year’s election and I happen to fully support this.
It is clear that the existing justice department has already undermined the rule of law and the country has consequently drifted towards tribalism. There is nothing about normalcy with our politics right now and Mr. Biden is well assured of support from both citizens and the former president. Obama’s charge on this case is not to stand against the existing government or to stand up for Mr. Biden—it is not to defend one ideology over the other, but to ensure that the government is reliable on itself. Does the current government have a strong policymaking strategy that can sustain global stability and upward economic mobility? Is there credibility of institutions in the country? There is no point in time when the state itself is going to break apart but there are a few things that need to be changed before the society gets into a war with itself. As for Biden, he is not running as a transformative leader in his own right, but as an open-minded candidate who needs to restore the sanity of the country.
In one of his speeches to the Democratic Party members in Delaware, Mr. Biden pointed out that he had received much criticism from the New Left (referring to Sen. Bernie Sanders supporters). He also declared that the critics were not a threat to his presidential bid since he holds the most progressive records than anybody else. Remarkably, Biden consistently polls higher than any other candidate including Bernie Sanders in the 2019-2020 presidential polls. This indicates that he would probably have the highest score in his bid for the presidency. Mr. Biden has since asserted on his certainty in running for the presidential race where he stated on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that he will not forego his bid for the 2020 presidency. He stated that if he could walk, then he could run.
So far, Sen. Bernie Sanders was the only candidate likely to challenge Mr. Biden as it has been evident through the polls and political critics. But lucky enough, Sen. Bernie Sanders has endorsed his former rival Mr. Biden for the presidency. This comes at a critical moment of the 2020 presidential campaigns in Biden’s attempts to unify the Democratic Party after a highly contested primary. Sen. Bernie Sanders has hence thrown his weight behind Joe Biden, signaling to his loyal supporters that they are to follow Mr. Biden and support his candidacy. Sen. Bernie Sanders has vowed to do whatever it takes to have Biden make Trump a one-term president. Sen. Bernie Sanders dropped out of the race after encountering a significant margin in delegate count far behind Joe Biden. This leaves us less worried about any other candidate that may challenge “our president.”
While some of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ supporters are still skeptical about Mr. Biden, Biden has announced that his taskforces are underway to help establish a common ground on emerging political differences. Biden admits that it is not a surprise that there emerge some differences between them, and there is also a likelihood that they will not table them over, but Biden is optimistic that the taskforces would be able to forge some policy agreements that would fit the majority group. Biden acknowledges that Sen. Bernie Sanders, though he has been his rival, has remained to be the most powerful voice for the United States (Cohn N.p), who constantly advocates for a fair and more just American nation. Mr. Biden will now require Sen. Bernie Sanders to help him not only to win the presidential campaigns but to also help him govern the country in case Biden wins the election.
Although Mr. Biden is concerned about the effect that the campaigns may have on his reputation and family, the fundraising challenges that he is about to encounter including people’s perception of his age compared to other candidates (Edward-Isaac Dovere N.p), he remains to be superior of all candidates. Biden’s “sense of duty”, his discontentment with the existing governance, the lack of foreign policy experience, and his aspiration to build a progressive bridge within the Democratic party prompts him to run for the presidential bid (Edward-Isaac Dovere N.p) and possibly meets him top his success. His current focus has been dealing with the crisis declining to engage in further debates.
I am keenly interested in Mr. Biden’s plan because I believe that he will help do away with a government that is a major threat to American democracy. There is an increasing demand for a more progressive open-minded individual who will reflect a progressively diverse Democratic coalition and that fully fits Mr. Biden’s personality. He is the strongest front-runner I have known and has high chances of beating President Trump, unquestionably. I am sure that he will also help bridge the differences that exist among Democrats. Despite his failings, Biden seems to be the safest candidate for the presidency.
I have always admired Mr. Biden’s disposition in his presidential debates. I have seen his passion for the country and its people. I admire his devotion to the country and his determination in the best interest of the middle class, and his strong faith in America’s promise. Listening to him speak makes me realize how lucky I am to be a U.S. citizen at this point and reminds me why I and so many other citizens would hope for him to be the next U.S. president. His honesty, authenticity, eloquence, passion, and his love for the nation is admirable. Mr. Bidden is the candidate positioned to reestablish civility in the country.
