Question 1

Loci Method

This is a method that requires you to put visualizing items that you want to remember in different locations in the mental image of spatial layout. The technique resembles that of Sherlock. Here you choose a place you are familiar with that has a spatial layout. This can be a room in your house, select between five to eight things or events that you would like in the future. Then create an image representing the selected items and put them at a specific location in one of the rooms you choose. If you need to remember those events in a particular order, then arrange them in the room in such a way that they appear in the order in which you enter the room.

Peg Word

Peg word, on the other hand, is a technique that requires you to put the things that you want to remember in different locations. In this technique, you first create a vivid image of the events concerning the object that the word represented. The mental association of the object and the word provides a retrieval cue that can help you remember words.

Question 2

Chomsky and Skinner took different sides, describing the language acquisition process. Skinners argued that the acquisition of language involved the learning process that shapes grammar through the re-enforcement of the stimulus. The correct grammar is re-enforced positively and used in the future, whereas incorrect grammar is re-enforced negatively and rejected. Chomsky’s view was different; he argued that the acquisition of human grammar is an innate biological ability that every human being has.  He also pointed out that there is a generative grammar that is responsible for the rapid acquisition and creative nature of language and grammar.

Skinner pointed out that there is a finite word processing system that is used to interpret a sentence. Chomsky, on the other hand, proposed that there is a transformational system that helps in processing the entire sentence. The theories of the two men, however, had some similarities in that all humans can acquire grammar. Still, Skinner was the first to conclude that since he was a behavioral psychologist.

Question 3

Experts and non-experts approach problems differently. An expert can solve a problem more quickly as compared to the non-expert. This is because the expert has spent a lot of time studying the subject and therefore has vast knowledge, which increases his/her efficiency in solving the problem. Another thing is that the expert looks deep into the structure of the problem before solving it. Non-expert, on the other hand, focuses on the surface characteristics of a problem. You, being an expert in a field, exhibit both advantages and disadvantages. An expert can be promoted in the company or the organization. However, as an expert, you are being looked upon, especially for complex tasks. In case anything goes wrong in the organization, especially that is in the area of your specialty, then you are responsible.

Question 4

Pay attention and take note of new ideas

To preserve a new idea that you get, you need to jot it down in a notebook or smartphone. After a while, evaluate the concept in all spheres, and you can go further by applying it to your day to day activities. Through all this, you can boost your creativity.

Practice pattern recognition

One way to enhance your creativity is by identifying patterns in whatever thing you observe. For instance, when you are reading a novel, identify the flow of the story so that you can be able to predict the outcomes of some behaviors of the characters. Studying subjects such as math, art, and science help you to sharpen your ability to recognize a pattern in whatever thing you are concentrating on.

In my case, I have been using the pay attention to new ideas method. In my opinion, this method works well as it allows you to discover many new things that you had not come across before. With the new things, you learned you could apply them in different situations, making you learn more from the application of the same ideas.

Question 5

Deductive reason refers to the type of reasoning in which one starts with general ideas known as premises and apply them to a particular situation in life. An example deductive reasoning is given by if A is B and C is A, the B is C. Inductive reasoning, on the other hand, refers to the reasoning in which an individual uses a set of specific observations to arrive at an overarching conclusion. For example, my neighbor’s cat usually hisses at me as well as my cat suggesting that all cats hate me.
