Quantitative and Qualitative Research
How does increasing postpartum depression screening frequencies affect the rate of referral of new mothers?
The type of research conducted quantitative since it is involving a Meta-regression study, systematic review and Meta-analysis on determining the prevalence of postpartum depression. For instance, according to Hahn-Holbrook et al, 2018 study involving both Meta-analysis and systematic review in 56 countries whereby 296284 women were studied in the 291 studies conducted. The findings provided that 17% of the woman had postpartum depression. The research can also be classified as qualitative basing the argument on the conclusion drawn from this study is that postpartum depression prevalence varies by region. Additionally, disparities in wealth inequality and factors associated with maternal health are the most probable causes of the variations which imply that observation had to be made to come up with such conclusions.
There are various pros and cons of using qualitative research which I will apply in my research. To start with are the pros in that it provides an opportunity for better understanding by giving more content that is useful for practical application. This helps in creating an easy channel of getting a solution to any problem for instance in determining the increase in cases of postpartum depression to new mothers (Rahman, 2017). Additionally, it eliminates instances of potential biasness within the data provided since it focuses on the actual structure of the decision-making process. On the contrary, the con of qualitative research includes it is difficult to generalize the findings in case of small size survey. The pros of quantitative research are it provides an opportunity for a broader study whereby large samples can be involved giving generalized results (Rahman, 2017). Additionally, it involves close-ended information thus the result is considered as accurate and objective. Finally, the con of quantitative research is that the study targets a larger population therefore no much detail is provided and minimal attention is enhanced on the thoughts and behavior about the context.
