Back in the 1840s, when the Industrial Revolution started to boom, there was increased demand for manual labor, since people operated most machines. Women were mostly preferred over men because of their readiness and ability to work at all times. This made the employers take advantage of them, and thus, they were given minimal wages that could not even be compared by the input they used to contribute to the industries they worked. During this period, there were no existing workers union or any movement to help fight for the rights and employee privileges. For that, many females found themselves on the receiving end of sexual harassment and humiliation from the male supervisors or managers.
Despite the challenges involved with the majority of women dominating the industrial manual labor, as time went by, technologies started to set in. This time some of the machines could perform the duties that people used to carry out, and slowly by slowly, the industries began to cut down the number of employees up to the point where technology machines can carry out production from start to end. These machines led to the increment of unemployed women. Therefore irrespective of the less pay, women could work hard to earn their living from the industries, and the innovating that has led to machines has made them displaced in terms of work
