1.RECOGNIZE AND DESCRIBE:
The rhythm is very light and slow. It entices the listeners to appreciate the importance of the words being used as each voice echoes and imitates what is sang before creating a sober atmosphere since the voices rarely sing together.
The melody represented cheerfully and sweetly, making the music upbeat to have a good sound.
Harmony changes in between minor to significant to represent the senses of the mystery and wonder caused by Jesus’s birth. The music starts during the introduction of ”the great mystery” as it begins with painting layers of sound that sets the tone for the rest of the piece.
2.Conclusion on what the composer was trying to present
The animals in the first half of the chant represent the place where Jesus’s birth took place, symbolizing the low life that Jesus led when he was a mortal. The other half of the song shows the words spoken to Mary by Elizabeth ”Blesses are you among the women and blessed is the child you will bear. Both of these symbolized the importance of the birth of Jesus as mortal and the mystery behind his birth. The choir sings hallelujah on a lilting triple meter unexpectedly, causing excitement to the piece.
