1st Response
Based on the student’s discussion, the ideas presented agree with my own since the individual recognizes that physician-assisted deaths should be legalized. Like myself, the student believes that involved patients have the right to choose what is best for them. While physicians sign an oath that obligates them to take care of patients, it also requires them to follow patients’ instructions. The student also agrees that as an individual who wants to be a physician, physician-aid-in-dying is an issue that one has to deal with. I agree with the idea that failure to follow the patient’s instructions to end their life would attract organizations such as Dignitas and Final Exit, which play a significant role in supporting patients in the end. I agree that what this person wants to do with their body is their choice and it is good to discuss with parents and other relatives.
2nd Response
While the student agrees with my idea that physician-assisted suicide should be legalized, they also present an essential consideration that there should be restrictions. I agree that it is vital to provide people, such as those suffering from depression, with the help they need before considering aiding their death because these are medical problems that can be solved. It is clear that the person also feels that the PAD’s issue would rise as long as one is working in a hospital setting. While I feel like this would be a hot political topic, the student argues that the world is having other problems, which should be a concern, which I agree with. The individual supports the Existence of groups such as Final Exit and Dignitas for the support they offer to patients who want to end their life. I think it is essential to discuss this topic with parents since anything can happen at any time.
3rd Response
The student offers two reasons why physician-assisted death should not be legalized, including the breach of Hippocratic Oath and the fact that human life is precious, and hence no one should terminate it. I’m afraid I have to disagree with this idea because the Hippocratic Oath requires that physicians act to serve the best will of patients and so if they wish PDA, then it should be provided. However, the physician should consider the option when they have tried their best to save the patient’s life without success. Organizations such as Final Exit and Dignitas do not downplay the decision to end someone’s life, but they offer help to ensure that patients are sure about this decision. I agree with the student that it is necessary to discuss this topic with parents since anything can happen.
