FIFA World Cups: Is it worth for the hosting countries?
Analyses of the economic impact in the last four countries.
Football is the most popular sport in the world by far. Currently, it is played in almost every country on earth, and no other game has managed to come closer to the followers that football has. Therefore, since the beginning of the 20th, most concretely 1930:Uruguay. There were World Cups until now except between 1938 and 1950 due to the Second World War. Nowadays, the FIFA World Cup has turned into a global phenomenon that excites billions of football fans every time that it happens. It is the world’s most-watched sporting event that generates millions of dollars due to stadium buildings, broadcasting licenses, sponsorships, tickets, merchandising and others.
Despite the magnitude of this event, not everything goes well hosting this event for the country and FIFA. There is much controversy about due to recent year scandals like bribery from Qatar to FIFA to host the Qatar World Cup 2022 or many stadiums left without any use just built for this competition like the Arena Of Amazonia in Brazil that cost 300$ million. These problems are only two from a lot of other cases that make my question relevant, why countries want to host the world cup having so many losses and spending so much money.
During this report, I will explain what the world cup is, I will evaluate the costs and revenues from the host of this event from the host country perspective. At the end of each country I will do a conclusion and at the end of the four countries a general conclusion about if it makes sense economically to organize this event.
