Global warming as a form of many effects
Global warming, like any other form of global climate change, has been on the rise over the recent past. This has been perpetuated by the greenhouse effect resulting from human activities. Simply, global warming can be described as the steady rise in temperatures on planet earth. Different scientists have been at the forefront in studying and assessing the effects of global warming on planet earth. For instance, it has been discovered that global warming has resulted in economic effects, land effects and human effects around the globe.
Global warming impacts humans in terms of;
Food insecurity
The changes in climate greatly affects agriculture and food production either negatively or positively. For example, global warming negatively affects agriculture in that crops such as maize and wheat which are in low latitutes are negatively affected while when the same types of crops in high latitutes are positively affected. Also, taking a scenario where future crop yields are projected, it can be ascertained that soybean and maize most probably decrease with any increased warming whereas wheat and rice production will increase as a result of warming.
Water availability
Human beings require water both in their bodies and in the activities that they perform. Therefore, anything that affects the availability of water has got a indirect effect on human beings. Rise in sea levels and this reduces the amount of fresh water that is required by most humans in coastal regions.
Health of human beings
Additionally, global warming affects the health of humans. For example the air pollution, heat waves and wildfires that are caused by global warming significantly affects human health.
Global warming has an effect on the land in terms of;
Flooding
This happens when water vapour is held by the the warm air. The accumulation of water paper in the atmosphere leads to heavy downpours which cause the floods.
Wildfires
The drying of soil and underbrush which is caused by prolonged periods of warmer temperatures increases the risk of wildfires. A clear example can be taken from the increased summertime air temperatures by 3.5 degrees Fahrenheit in California. During this time, there has been prolonged fire season compared to previous decades.
Cryosphere
For instance, in the polar regions, cryosphere is extremely sensitive to to any climatic change. Since cryosphere includes the parts covered by ice and snow, the increased warming has led to the decline in the levels of the ice and therefore largely affected the cryosphere.
Economically, global warming has had a significant effect. This can be shown by;
A modelling study conducted in 2019
This study showed that the global economic inequality was largely contributed by climate change. In the study, it was discovered that most of the wealthy countries in cold regions felt little economic effect from climate change. On the other hand, most of the developing countries in hotter regions were primarily affected by global warming. Ideally, in a hot climate, there is high probability that food production does not thrive well. As everyone know, the economy is basically supported by agriculture in many countries. This means that where agriculture is not supported, the economy of negatively affected and vice versa.
Conclusion
As far as global warming is concerned, it can pose effects on land, humans and economy. Since most of the effects are negative, different mechanisms should be put in place to ensure that the continued global warming is fully controlled.
