Innovativeness is the concept that involves the introduction of new ideas, workflows, methodologies, and products in an organization. It also includes the improvement of existing ideas in a bid to boost productivity. An organization is dependent on innovation to grow. That is, operations and products or services in a business need to develop for growth to be achieved continually. Innovativeness occurs in various forms, ranging from technology deployed to the products and services that an organization focuses on making. This implies that it cuts across various sectors of an organization. This paper focuses on innovation and how it relates to operations and supply chain concepts.
Innovativeness is similar to operations and supply chain management in various ways. That is, both are determinants of business growth. The management focuses on the two aspects alongside other factors while setting goals implementing strategies. Supply chain management captures all operations from sourcing of raw materials to the final consumption of products or services produced by the organization. Innovativeness injects new ideas, which are essential in improving the products as well as the operations involved in supply chain management. In this regard, the two concepts merge to serve a common goal of growing the business.
Gholampour, & Rahim’s article (2015), focuses on exploring the impacts of innovation in the performance of the supply chain. The authors of the article note that competitiveness, expand the market share, and establish effective chain are the main drivers to innovation among leaders. Supply chain manager aims at reducing delays, improving customer satisfaction as well as obtaining high-quality products. The objectives are realized through a series of innovations in supply chain management. In this context, the author marks that innovativeness comes into play in merging the goals of an organization and with the available resources. These ways, the level of innovativeness determines the performance of a supply chain. Finally, the authors take notes of two primary forms of innovation; product innovation and process innovation. The effects of these forms of innovativeness on the supply chain performance are explored in the setting of the automobile industry group.
The concept of innovativeness is also relevant in the biblical context. Innovativeness is interpreted and integrated differently in the Christianity context. Mark 2:21 states that no one repairs a torn garment using a patch from a new cloth. It also adds that no one puts new wine into an old wineskin. In this context, the bible promotes innovation, where growing needs require new approaches. Also, Romans 12:2 warns Christian against conforming to the world; instead, they should be transformed by the renewal of their mind. This verse encourages people to embrace new ideas and a new revolution guided by the truth and teaching of Christianity. Finally, the story of creation, as outlined in Genesis 1:1, describes God’s innovativeness. It also sets the pace for Christians, who should act in accordance with this example.
Innovativeness is applied in various aspects of life, but mostly in business. As observed by Gholampour & Rahim (2015), supply chain managers are dependent on innovation to improve supply chain performance. The organization is always innovating new production technologies to minimize the cost of production and widen the profit margin. Besides, the quality of products in manufacturing industries, especially the automobile sector, is on the rise due to innovativeness. Finally, innovation also influences how firms market their products. This implies that innovation is integrated into all aspect of a business
