Domestic Violence in the US
Introduction
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (2020) statistics, almost 20 cases of individuals are hurt by their intimate partners per minute, equating to about ten million men and women per year. This case is a problem because it means that almost three percent of the US population experienced such violence in a year. Burnett (2018) states that in the US, one in every three women (about 37%) and one in every six men (about 17%) have experienced forms of sexual violence from their intimate partners in their lifetime. Domestic violence refers to violent and aggressive behavior within the home environment that one partner perpetrates against another. The Arizona Coalition to end Sexual and Domestic Violence (2020) states that such violent acts are physical and emotional, and involve efforts towards gaining power and control over the other partner. The types of domestic violence include verbal, physical, sexual, economic, and emotional abuse, isolation, and control of one’s activities. These lead to such consequences as physical injuries, emotional and mental health conditions, depression, anxiety, and poor self-esteem, especially for children in such environments.
Anti-violence program
Implementing the program will occur at the state level in various counties and municipalities. It will focus on children aged above eight years from the third grade. It shall involve community leaders, parents, health facilities, and the teachers. The program shall offer to teach children to speak out while also counseling parents and guardians in such situations. The plan shall assess its work by over-viewing the number of children and parents who come forth reporting suspected cases. The costs involved will include the acquisition of training and awareness-creating materials. The primary limitation could arise from hesitation and fear of children to speak out against their parents.
