Ethical Standards
- Corporate Policies
TechFite needs to adopt corporate social responsibility policy, employee bonus and benefits policy, and employee empowerment and engagement policy. Corporate social responsibility policy refers to our effort and responsibility towards the environment. Employee bonus and benefits policy refers to how our company distributes benefits and bonuses to our employees. Employee empowerment and engagement policy refer to how TechFite gives its employees some degree of responsibility for making decisions regarding specific company tasks or plans.
A 1. The rationale behind the policies
Since TechFite exists as a part of a bigger social system and environment, our corporate social responsibility policy ensures that the company gives back to the community as it gives to us. Our employee bonus policy is enacted due to the need to reward our employees when possible because all our employees contribute to the success of TechFite through their skills and talents. Employee engagement and empowerment policy meet the need of the company to involve the employee in decision-making and let them influence their work. The policies also align with TechFite’s culture of community involvement and employee empowerment and engagement.
A2. Difference Between Ethical and Legal Issues
Legal issues are based on law and what can be enforced within the written rules or policies. Ethical issues, on the other hand, are based on human principles of what is right or wrong (Jennings 2014). For instance, it is legally acceptable for TechFite to provide more part-time jobs so the company would not have to pay bonuses. However, that may not be ethically right.
A3. Analysis of Ethical Issues
In the scenario, the executives of the company are given substantial benefits while the other employees and company responsibilities are not satisfied. The employees are no paid enough, wages and benefits, and the working hours are not enough. The business obligation to give back to society is not met, and the company strains to provide a pleasant working environment. The company is funding executive bonuses instead of funding essential company obligations, thus raising ethical issues.
A4. Purpose of Ethics Officer
An ethics officer in an organization ensures that the company complies with the USSC’s regulations guidelines and for ethical conduct. Ethics officers help employees to seek guidance or report any violations of USSC guidelines and respond to breaches of code of conduct. Ethics officers respond to offenses and ensure that employees of the organization comply with the USSC guidelines and regulations.
- Description of Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate social responsibility refers to the initiatives a company takes to ensure it takes responsibility for the effects it causes on the environment and social system (Unit et al., 2015). For instance, TechFite has made some social commitments, such as helping improve infrastructure and sponsoring community activities.
B1. Ethical Desirability
TechFite had promised jobs, community support, and being socially responsible. However, none of the promises has been met. The company has failed to provide proper wages and benefits to their employees. It is ethically desirable to operate fairly in favor of the employees and community the company is situated.
B2. Courses of Action
TechFite values engagement in community development and employee satisfaction. As such, TechFite should revise its budgeting process and bonus distribution so that it can fulfill the promises they made to the community and its employees.
B3. Ethical, Social and Environmental Responsibility
Employee satisfaction is an ethical responsibility for TechFite because the company has a moral duty to keep production up, and that can only be done by ensuring that employees are happy. TechFite also has a social obligation to give back to the community by sponsoring community activities, helping in improving infrastructure, and investing in environmentally friendly technologies.
