A Review of Psalms 119:75
‘I know, Lord, that your Laws are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.’ David says he knows, meaning that he is sure. He does not say that he tries to understand but fully trusts the Lord. It proves here that he is a firm believer in God’s word. David understands the nature of God and the things He is capable of doing.
God’s Laws lack any mistakes. Therefore, He is righteous. They are God’s mouthpiece. They are the Ten Commandments that He made available for human beings. David knows that these rules show us the way to live with another. They help us to understand the world in a deeper sense. With these rules, we can differentiate between good and evil.
It seems the Psalmist knows a lot of Christian teachings in detail. He is a wise and strong Christian follower. We should make an effort to know everything that God wishes us to do. We should also struggle to follow His commandments. Just like David, we should not question what God wants us to do. He is the most Supreme Being. He is our creator.
The Lord has a right to judge us. David accepts His judgment and authority. He knows that he is a pure human being, and for that, he can make mistakes every other time. Therefore, he lets God’s will take control. He tells God to analyze Him and treat Him according to his actions. David is a man who always tries to make God happy. God knows that we are sinners, and He is willing to make things right.
‘In faithfulness, you have afflicted me,’ here means that God decided to punish David. This punishment was as a result of failing to follow the rules of God. Even after that, David has no problem with that. He also encourages that God should do it more often. David makes it clear that God does not have bad intentions for Him and that he has kept His word-that. He would punish him for that mistake.
That part also means that besides God giving us rules to follow, there are consequences for not following them. We have to be followers of God’s word to avoid some calamities in life. Sometimes bad things happen to us because of our sins. God does not punish us; our sins do. We sometimes have the power to control what happens to us. When we are faithful to God, our lives improve.
In that verse, David is in some pain and suffering. He doesn’t show any complaints. God is a loving father. He lets us go through pain because He loves us. When we are going through hard times, he delivers us, especially those who know and respect Him. David clearly shows that he has faith in God in good and bad times.
We should not only praise Him in good times but also during the worst times of our lives. He loves us without conditions.
