The definition of the term addiction has evolved over the years. Previously addiction was associated with using of chemical substances or drugs by an individual. Addiction can also come from prescribed medications like pain medicines, especially ones containing opiates. It is important to exercise extreme caution in the prescription and handling of opioid-containing pain medication.
