Annotated First Draft of Research Argument Essay

Over the past couple of centuries, human beings have exploited various means of self-expression and communication. The ability to express and communicate with others has been a central point of humanity by improving the mediums of communication, such as the use of horns, smoke, and sending messengers to the current use of technology. Another medium that has been dramatically explored through the ages is the use of art as a means of expression and communication. In the ancient world, colonies, dynasties, and kingdoms used art to assert their authority and dominance and was a symbol of power, affluence, and ability. In the recent past, art has continued to be the primary medium of expression, allowing individuals to put into impressions thoughts and ideas that they would otherwise no have concrete words for. No matter the intention for which it is used, art is an essential vof society as it brings people together, education, and entertaining the masses.

In his article’ “Why We Need Arts in Our Lives,” Kwon Bong-woon points out that every individual has the drive to create and express themselves. Art is the vehicle for which dimensional and imaginative ideas are breathed life into, allowing every individual access to their inner self without holding themselves back. Like dreams, art enables an individual to escape from the world of reality and tap into a superficial realm where anything is possible, and one can create anything they wish for. Art allows us to express ourselves without the fear of judgment or discrimination for our absurd or unrealistic ambitions. As such, art is essential since it allows us to indulge our emotions fearlessly and to create self-awareness not only of our innermost feelings but also of the world around us. Therefore, art should be embraced as a pathway to self-reflection and self-awareness.

Secondly, art allows humanity to adopt a lifestyle that is fluid, ageless, and unique. While most professions and occupations have an age limit where a person has to retire, art is an endless journey that is undeterred by age. As a way of living, there is no end to art but instead creates a continuous path that allows people to express themselves uniquely and freely, painting their experiences as they grow older. In art, one is influenced by the experiences they live through, and the changes they see in the community. as such, art is not only limitless, but it creates a lifestyle for a community by pointing out the differences that need to be made for society to move on progressively. Therefore, through creativity, we get to continuously reinvent the world around us, influencing major life decisions, and living a legacy for as long as we live.

I believe art should also be embraced and promoted because whether we are aware of it, every day engages us deeply in art because it surrounds life. Being surrounded by art means that our decisions are affected continuously by craft. Our dispositions and perceptions of the world are influenced by art. As a boundless phenomenon, art is not influenced by one’s level of education or ability to indulge in politics, economics, or other global affairs. Unlike technology or science, art is open to people from all walks of life, age, education level, gender, social status, or culture notwithstanding, art presents a globally neutral language and perception, influencing our interaction with each other. I love how art is a form of communication and culture that unites all of us and en engages us whether we notice it or not, and for that, I believe art should be appropriately celebrated.

I also believe we should embrace art for the role it plays in creating a home out of a house. Art is not just a decorative piece that any house should have. It is a symbol of their belief, their faith, and their unity. Whenever you walk into a house and see a portrait, you immediately get an impression of the type of family occupies the home. John Demarco points out that art makes a home more human, which implies that it creates a profile of the homeowners and shows their attachment to humanity, culture, and society. Tess Gibson reiterates this view by pointing out that art as a form of expression takes away the external relations between individuals, creating unity. Therefore, art not only creates a home, but it also brings the family together, enhancing more intimate relationships that are healthy and productive.

Art should be embraced for its ability to explore the human imagination. Art teaches us to be conscious of ourselves and our surroundings. It also empowers us to better human beings to be concerned about the welfare of those around us. But more importantly, art brings people together. Whether in a family setting or a symposium, an art gallery, or any other medium, art creates an atmosphere where people can come together and talk about the things they have in common, thus fostering interaction. I love how art is ageless, genderless, and cultureless. Instead, it is fluid and includes all people, creating an atmosphere where everyone fuses to become one body, drawn together for a common course, and that is to explore the inner person.
