The company that has greatly benefited from a dual-product approach is Apple. The major products are Macs, iPods, iPhones, and iPads.The launching of the iPod was a reward for Mac transactions. This is because the iPod was more affordable than the Macs, so many individuals get their first encounter with the Apple product through iPods. Consequently, several such iPod clients were Mac clients. This is referred to as the trickle-down effect. Certain words that can be used to explain this phenomenon are bridge-pollination and up-selling (Wright, 2019). Once the iPhone was published, it was advertised as an iPod. This implied that many iPhone clients were supplied from iPods. What may be engaging with Apple is the enforced border-pollination that takes place across their environment. Apple phones are built to fit together well, implying the iPhone usability is improved by Mac ownership, and vice versa. The sum of the goods is higher than that of the individual elements.
This is a powerful dual-product company. Moreover, with the introduction of iWatch, they could be going too far. Dual product businesses operate better because a buyer for one product is probable to be a buyer for yet another product that the company is selling. 37Signals is marketing apps to companies (Li, 2019). When they launch a new item targeted at music artists, there is hardly any overlap, limiting the amount of future bridge-selling, and eventually undermining the role of the business. If the goods work together well, this improves mixed sales. A corporation can use one item as a means to market another product. They have also made every effort to create this tool-using it for certain things is mostly free.
