Every writer whether skilled or unskilled has their way of composing sentences. Some people are good at talking but have challenges in writing, while others are good at talking but poor in constructing sentences. Writing depends on the amount of knowledge that a person has to allow them make enough connections and come up with a complete sentence instantly. Composing a sentence may be difficult, and therefore, a person needs to understand their weaknesses and work hard to improve them. this paper will discuss my writing process, describing them in order to learn something new that I am not aware of currently.

Data Collection

Every person has their unique way of writing and composing sentences. To determine my actual writing characteristics, I decided to film myself as I did one of my assignments. Each writer has their environment that enable them to work effectively, so I started by identifying a conducive silent environment that would allow me to brainstorm and write efficiently, and also make it easier to record myself. I used a phone for recording my video and audio clip, I also used a laptop for doing the assignment, and managed my time using a timer. From the clip, I realized that to ensure the flow of my essay, I would revise my previous sentences to ensure a smooth flow of ideas. It might be slow but eventually, I came up with a properly written essay with a smooth flow of ideas. I realized that reading my text a loud allowed me to get a general idea of the subject matter, but re-reading it allowed me to understand it clearly than before. Therefore, the revising is a crucial aspect in writing as it help in generation of new ideas and a systematic flow of ideas. My reading speed affected my writing speed because I am slower at reading, and as I tried to connect the sentences I ended up consuming more time that I would have used in writing.

Analysis

I was able to adequately use the allocated time efficiently to create my essay. I utilized my office hours adequately and there are great improvements on the amount of time I spend in constructing a sentence. Initially I would take almost two minutes to link ideas to ensure there is a smooth flow of concepts, but now it only takes thirty seconds to generate ideas to enhance my writing speed. To ensure that I write better, I prefer writing alone to ensure I get maximum concentration. I prefer writing in a silent place such as in the library, where there are few distractions and movements. I work best when I am alone and only need a discussion to ensure what I have learn sticks in my mind. Any movement or noises from music or people talking may greatly affect my concentration and my writing process. Therefore, to ensure I produce a good paper, I must ensure that my working environment is quite and there are few people in the room to ensure maximum concentration.

To ensure that my writing process is efficient, I have make a draft first to ensure smooth flow of ideas something that I was not doing at the beginning of the semester. I have realized that, for writing to be successful, one has to plan on what to write, and organize the ideas in an orderly manner. Write the ideas as planned, and revise the text after finishing writing, to ensure that all rules have been followed. Even in the future, I will still apply this method because I have seen it saves a lot of time and ensure a person takes the least time to write, once they have created a draft.

Planning and Drafting

At the beginning of the semester, I faced a lot of challenges in writing the first assignments due to lack of concentration and failure to prepare adequately by creating a draft before starting to write. My initial assignment are totally different from the ones I am writing now, because I have know that I need to create a draft that will act as a guide in my writing process, and to ensure smooth flow of ideas from one paragraph to another. The essays that I am writing currently are of better quality than those I wrote at the beginning of the semester. I take my time to collect information on the topics in the course outline to ensure that I have a general idea of whatever is required of me in this semester. I have realized that I need to plan my work by creating a draft that acts as a guide in my writing and ensure that I don’t run out of ideas in the middle of my writing.

Writing needs a plan, and to ensure a person writes within the allocated time, a person needs to adequately prepare by creating a draft that will help in generation of writing ideas. Revising whatever one has written is essential to ensure there are no grammatical errors and the essay meets all the stated guidelines.
