Black communities admitted that they had smothered memories of pain in the hands of law enforcers
In a recent interview, Black communities admitted that they had smothered memories of pain in the hands of law enforcers. They are still struggling with police brutality, profiling, and discrimination, even in modern society. Therefore, I believe that there is a need to deploy effective strategies to ensure a successful healing process. The first approach is to build a personal relationship between members of the community and the police. Members of the community should interact well with the police and vice versa. Police should organize events such as attending community services, coffee with a cop, and shopping with a cop. Also, good interaction between the police and the community enhances effective policing. The police can get intelligence information from the community members, which helps them to police effectively. Also, communication is an essential aspect between two parties.
In case of any conflict between the police and the community, effective communication can settle such disputes. Police should choose the right words when conversing with communities. The proper use of words builds respect and trust between members of the community and the police. The police should avoid harassing suspects to a point where they feel intimidated. Engaging the community in oversight and planning enhances community-police trust. The community should be given an opportunity to vent their thoughts on how the police should carry out their roles. The community and the police should be given training on a regular basis. The police should be taught to police fellow police officers. On the other hand, the community should be trained to be law-abiding citizens.
