How can NLP make a smartphone smarter?
A smartphone is normally used by the users who have a lot of other tasks to do leaving no chance to type various contents for communication. Natural-Language Processing (NLP) is a software that can make the smartphone smarter by enabling one to talk understandable words to the phone for it to type and give the necessary feedback. This technique can create a faster and efficient entry of data in a device. NLP can, therefore, be useful to the user if the data input can be automatically analyzed and respond appropriately given back according to the information given (BIDGOLI, 2018).
What are some examples of software used by smartphones?
Smartphones are currently very useful devices as far as communication is concerned. The device has eased every communication process by use of various software which includes Palm OS, Windows CE, Blackberry, and many others.
Palm software is the first software for smartphones to avail the application of writing, keeping large tasks, and managing calendars. These services were not in the previous software therefore they were not available to any phone before. Palm also introduced personal data assistance devices (PDA) which were used by other software companies to create their own devices.
Blackberry software developed a platform to send and receive emails on any device. This technology promoted businesses and other casual groups to share their views more conveniently across the world.
Windows CE software later created a generation where smartphones can access various versions of Microsoft office. These versions were the Microsoft word and the excel spreadsheet (BIDGOLI, 2018).
What are some of the challenges that have to be overcome before achieving a full-featured voice-activated mobile device?
Many challenges need to be handled to overcome the full-featured voice-activated mobile device. These challenges include the use of various foreign languages, the influence of accent, and disturbance from a noisy environment.
To deal with the case of foreign language, many languages should be installed in NLP to give access to almost every user to use his/her best language to input data. This mechanism will enhance the understanding of more relevant responses.
To deal with the issue of accent, NLP should introduce a pronunciation correction software that can correct the spoken words. This will help the user to know the correct pronunciation and avoid the mistake in the future.
The issue of noise can be handle by using more sensitive sound devices to focus on the closest voice and ignore the others.
Generally, NLP can lay strategies to automatically analyze the user’s content and responding appropriately according to the information given (BIDGOLI, 2018).
Compare and contrast Apple’s Siri and Pixel’s Google Assistant. Which one do you prefer and why?
Apple’s Siri is an intelligent assistant that enables the users to speak the relevant language to a device for it to operate and use its apps correctly. This software is only available in expensive devices like Apple iPhone 4S, iPad, and iPod Touch devices. Pixel’s Google Assistant is almost the same as Apple’s Siri but it is available on many local devices. Therefore, I prefer Pixel’s Google Assistant due to availability (BIDGOLI, 2018).
