Outline checklist
Please tick () each point to check that your essay outline is complete.
| 1) There is a thesis statement at the beginning of the outline – the main idea for the whole essay (e.g. “Education systems in Kuwait and in the UK are quite different, but work in these two countries is very similar.”)

| 2) The thesis statement is a sentence (it has a subject and a verb).

| 3) The thesis statement is a positive or a negative sentence, but not a question.

| 4) Ideas in the outline are divided into paragraphs (at least two main body paragraphs).

| 5) The essay presents similarities and differences between two countries in the areas of education and work.
| |
| 6) Each paragraph has at least two supporting points (they could be “detail”, “explanation” or “example”).

| 7) Each supporting point in each paragraph has more specific supporting information to help develop the paragraph.

| 8) There is a concluding sentence at the end of the outline (which matches the thesis statement).
