Cyberdating

Cyberdating is a dating service that is found online, where people are connected and matched with other partners of the same interest before they meet physically. When it comes to researching Cyberdating, the first step would be to define the research problem of the topic. In this case, the research problem would be what motivates people to use Cyberdating instead of finding partners physically. The next step would be to review the available evidence on the matter and find out whether the researchers before you found out the answer to the problem, the gaps they left that your research could fill, and if there are no studies done to review, then the researcher can review work that is related to the research question of the topic (Denzin, 2017). For instance in our case there is literature done by Bryant, K., & Sheldon, P. (2017) in their work “cyber dating in the age of mobile Apps: understanding motives, Attitudes, and characteristics of Users”.

The third step would be to formulate a hypothesis for the problem. The following step is achieved through the use of previous literature to understand how to approach the current problem (Denzin, 2017). In our case, the hypothesis would be that many users prefer to use Cyberdating as a form of hiding their esteem issues, while others do so for the fun they find in mobile dating applications. The next step would be selecting a research design that would include how the researcher intends to collect the necessary materials. In this case, in trying to find out why people prefer to use dating sites instead of physical connections, literature review, as well as questionnaires and interviews, would be applicable. The research would hence be said to have used a mixed method of research. The mixed method of research incorporates both qualitative and quantitative methods.

The next step would be carrying out the research and in this step, various challenges may present themselves, such as difficulties carrying out certain methods of obtaining data. For instance using questionnaires or interviews. Other people may provide false information that could lead to a false interpretation of the results. The next step would involve interpreting the acquired data for analysis. The final step involves reporting the acquired findings from the research and the interpretation. The step could be achieved by publishing the findings in a book or a journal that usually justifies the conclusions. In the findings, the researcher may give his recommendations on areas that require further research.

Some of the ethical issues that I would observe during the research include assuring the respondent that the information they give will remain confidential, and ensure that I stick to that (Oliver, P. 2010). Next I would remain truthful, just, and remain selfless while doing the research. As a result, I would not be seeking to only satisfy my needs, but also ensure the respondent have their needs looked at. Hence, I would not force a respondent to respond to my questions if they do not have to.

Annotated bibliography

Bryant, K., & Sheldon, P. 2017. Cyber Dating in the Age of Mobile Apps: Understanding Motives, Attitudes, and Characteristics of Users. American Communication Journal, 19(2).

The authors address the question of relationships, and how they have changed since the evolution of social media and the internet. They seek to find the motivations behind using mobile applications and online dating websites. Also, they sought to know the attitudes of the users towards the platforms as well as their differences while using the sites and Applications. In their findings, they found out that some people use the applications and sites for the fun they find there, others due to the need for relationships while others seek hookups. For those who have used the platforms, the authors found that they had a difference in opinion when compared to those who have not used them. Additionally, there was a difference in the esteem of the users and nonusers majority of the users had self-esteem issues. Also older people would be more inclined to use the sites and Apps for relationship purposes.

Feng, M. L. 2005. Choosing online partners in the virtual world: How online partners’ characteristics affect online dating. Lynn University.

The authors performed a study to understand how the use of Cyberdating affects online dating. In their study, they sought to use appearances such as looks, financial prospects, beliefs, values, and self-disclosure to affect the online partners. The study focused on three key factors namely motive, gender, and age. In their findings, they found out that there were differences in the preferences per gender on the weight and ambitions of the partner. In terms of age, the preferences differed on the height of the partner.
