Adult group supervision and professional development is a broad topic which covers vital topics. All the topics covered play a significant role in the development and well-being of the aspect in question. For this reason, the study will focus on specific questions, where a critical analysis will be conducted. The study will critique two studies; patient preferences for involvement in medication management in hospitals, and bedtime hypertension treatment improves cardiovascular risk reduction; The Hygia Chronotherapy Trial. Looking at the two topics, it is clear that they are all linked, and when studied together, a proper solution of dealing with the issue can be achieved without any problem whatsoever. Since the study will have to collect data that will be used in the process of critiquing the two studies, it means that various research methods will be used. It is also clear that the study will require both qualitative and quantitative data will be used in the whole process. It is at this point that the McMaster tool comes in handy as it is used to study both qualitative and quantitative studies of the Research in question. Since the study will be based on two topics as named before, it means that several steps will be followed to be able to achieve the set goal of the study. The study will be designed in a manner that there will be a chronological arrangement of ideas, where a definition of terms and concepts will be done to keep everything clear throughout the study. After that, a critical analysis will be conducted on the two named topics where relevant information and data will be posted, which will help in the process of determining the reliability of the Research and its relevance to practice in the contemporary world.

Evidence-Based Practices

Trinder and Reynolds (2000) defined Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) as an occupational practice that is based on tested and proven scientific evidence. Although several scientific facts have been proven before, some are proving to be unrealistic as time moves by (Trinder & Reynolds, 2000). It is for this reason that before a scientific fact is proven, it undergoes critical scrutiny. Over the years, different sectors and departments have adopted the EBP in proving and substantiating their actions. However, EBP has widely taken effect in the health sector, as every action and step taken requires substantial support that it is relevant and safe. It is from the above information that the Research in question comes in handy. A critical analysis is to be conducted on the two research articles where their viability and availability is to be determined. In the process of achieving all this, various methods will be implemented, which will focus on the evidence posted. All this is essential as it gets to ensure that the right information is posted, and the data used is up to date and can be applied in the contemporary world (Siegfried, 2017-11-13).

Vital Areas from the two Papers

Every part of any research paper is essential as they all get to link and depend on each other all along. However, some pieces have proven to be necessary as they play a significant part in the whole research study. For instance, the methodology used, sample size, data collection, findings, and conclusion of the Research are an essential part of any study (Rod, 2014). One main reason why these parts are crucial is that they carry the base information of the Research. Therefore, if these sections give wrong information or the data tempered with in any way, the whole study is rendered obsolete. With the above in mind, a critical analysis will focus on the essential parts at this point where all the information, data, and methods implemented will be analyzed to check and substantiate every aspect of the information posted. Since the Research in question focuses on two articles, the critique will be organized in a manner that will focus on each article separately where strengths and flows will be identified. The design is essential as it will help to critique each article individually, and the latter gets to give a collective conclusion based on the findings of the results.

Exploring patient preferences for involvement in medication management in hospitals

To start with, the methodology implemented for this research study is well designed and outlined. The methodology chronologically arranges every activity and actions that the researchers undertook in the process of data collection. The methodology clearly outlines the participants, data collection methods used, ethical considerations, and lastly, the analysis of the data collected. Howell (2013) argues that a proper research methodology is one that is well organized and structured. Howell further explains that organizing a research methodology in a manner that outlines every aspect of the Research chronologically helps the researcher to hold all their ideas and data collected accordingly (Howell, 2013). It is the same case that has been done with this research paper. The organization of the methodology is a first and clear indication that the researchers were determined to give their best.

Methods Used

While conducting any research study, researchers always utilize various methods in data collection. Herrman (2009) explains that the type of plan used in data collection is always based on the type of data being collected and how it will be collected. Critically looking at the article, researchers used the interview as a sole and primary method of data collection, as it posed to be the only viable method (Herrman, 2009). By taking into consideration all factors and variables involved, it is clear that the researchers could have implemented other practices in the process of data collection. Moreover, there is also a clear indication that the data collected at this point is qualitative. For instance, the use of questionnaires would have worked as the participants were able to read and write without any issue whatsoever; thus, qualitative data would have been collected. However, since the researchers settled to work with an interview, the method is still as viable as adequate information was collected.

Sample Size

The sample size is determined by the type of Research and issue in question. A study may have used a small sample size and be able to give viable results that are applicable, while some small samples may not be used to represent a large number of people based on the results posted. Based on the research question and the requirements, the sample size to be used at this point is supposed to be large and from a different location (Bartlett, Kotrlik, & Higgins, 2001). The sample size used in the Research focused on one hospital where participants were selected from different wards. Based on this aspect, the sample size is not adequate for the research paper. The data collected from the sample size is not adequate to give a considerable answer or rather a solution for the report.

Data Collection and Findings

Data collection and findings are essential parts of any research. Data collection is the process that gets to collect all the relevant information that will be used to analyze and make recommendations and conclusions of the study. Looking at the data collection process, the researchers came up with a proper strategy that ensured that the data collected was adequate and up to date. Data collection was done in a manner that all external factors and variables were kept constant and at optimum (Jovancic, 2020). All this was to ensure the participants were comfortable, and the response given was viable. The process of data analysis is also good design and structured as all essential tools were used in the process of analysis. The qualitative data is well analyzed, presented, and supported by relevant sources. With all this, it is clear that the results posted are clear cut and are all based on the data collected.

The relevance of the Research

Critically analyzing the findings and conclusions of the Research, it is clear that patients need to be included in the process of medication management. According to a research by Manias, Rixon, Williams, Lieu, & Braff (2015), patients need to have the right to be included in the process of mess of medication management. All this is so as it will play a significant role in helping them adapt and feel like they are part of the process of getting batter. Manias et al. argue that most patients who are not given a chance to know and manage their medication get to have a feeling that they are under a particular punishment. In so doing, a patient may, in a way, develop a strategy that will help them try to refute or instead evade the medication. From this conclusion, it is clear that Research is relevant in the contemporary world as medication is one aspect that affects many patients in hospitals.

Bedtime Hypertension Treatment Improves Cardiovascular Risk Reduction: The Hygia Chronotherapy Trial

When it comes to this Research, the researchers are seen to have done intense work as the Research is detailed and well-substantiated with credible sources. The methodology used at this point is in a way not well defined and categorized but the results have been well outlined. Although the methodology used at this point was able to yield results, it is not advisable to use it. One advantage is that it may yes, give appropriate results which can easily be substantiated, but it has various disadvantages attached (Joubish, 2009). For instance, there is no clear cut outline of what was done first, what followed and what was done last. This makes it hard for anyone reading the Research to follow all the proceedings. It is also hard to determine at this point if the Research is focused on qualitative or quantitative Research or both.

Methods Used

Critically looking at the types of methods used at this point, it is clear that all of them are okay and are all in line with quantitative data collection. Based on the research topic in question, it is clear that the methods chosen have been able to collect viable and credible data for the Research. Moreover, the techniques in question are well defined where the type of data being collected is definite, and there is no point or place where there is any contradiction whatsoever (Howell, 2013). For this reason, the methods implemented are credible, thus able to produce quality results for the Research in question.

Sample Size

Just as seen before, the sample size is determined by the type of research question and, at the same time, the quality of data and results to be deduced. At this point in Research, the sample size chosen by the Research is broad. The sample size is considered as the researchers aimed at collecting a significant amount of data that could be used for quantitative data analysis (Israel, 1992). For this reason, it is clear that the sample size is acceptable and can give credible results for the Research in question.

Data Collection and Findings

Data collection for the Research was adequately conducted based on the amount of data posted and the findings. Since the Research was focused on quantitative Research, data collected was from primary and secondary sources. This is one aspect that makes the Research have adequate and well-outlined information (Northern Illinois University, 2005). Looking at the way the data collected and recording is done, it is clear that the researchers used a well-structured approach that ensured that the accepted and recorded data was viable and useful to the study. When it comes to the process of documenting findings for the Research, a precise analysis was conducted, which got to analyze the raw data using various approved methods and formulas. The formulas were carefully derived, taking into consideration all the factors and variables that affected the Research. Based on the results and information posted, it is clear that the data and recommendations are viable and of significance substance.

From the data collected, results, and recommendations posted, it is clear that there is a decent idea that strongly supports the fact that the hygia chronotherapy trial has a positive impact on patients. The data collected and used to come up with the results and recommendations show that the approach has, for a long time, had a positive impact on patients. Data collected in the current world was compared to data collected a long time ago, and it was clear that there was a slight variation, but the results were almost the same. It is therefore clear that the Research in question is relevant in the current world practices.

Conclusion

This essay has considered two research papers using different methodologies. In my opinion, both have provided valuable information and proved their essentialness, if for instance, we take into consideration qualitative Research, it is a handy tool if there is no idea how to carry out Research, or no real direction is known it can help in gathering data for our Research. Similarly, quantitative Research is also quite important as all the data are in statistical form, understanding the situation, and then implementing it becomes easier because its validity is proven based on mathematical and experimental calculations. (Stealth and Rafiq Raji, 2017). My view on Evidence-Based Practice in nursing has been rather strengthened; however, I learned further that there is no one‐size‐fits‐all approach to evidence gathering techniques so it is fair to conclude that quantitative and qualitative types of research should be used to complement each other because they generate different kinds of knowledge that are useful in nursing practice. (Kerlinger & Lee, 2000, p592).
