factors to consider when preparing to deliver a presentation

According to Dananjaya Hettiarachchi, there are several factors to consider when preparing to deliver a presentation. Preparing for an excellent presentation depends on several steps highlighted by Dananjaya. The pointers of outstanding performance in this paper have been practiced and used in award-winning speeches. He emphasizes that practicing these simple habits before making a presentation ensures the delivery of a great statement to an audience.

The first step is to understand the message of the presentation. A presentation’s word is what makes an audience sit and listen to a speaker. The audience is seated to listen to a performance that will impact their current view and understanding of a particular subject. The message has to be direct to the point and win over the audience to the presenter side. The letter should be so straightforward that it can be written in ten words. Simplicity prepares the audience for the presentation that is to be made.

According to Dananjaya, the next important thing to do is to identify the title of the presentation. The title of the presentation should not hint to the audience or tell the audience what you are about to talk about. When a speaker is introduced on stage, the person submitting the speaker will use the title in the introduction. At this moment, the audience will hear what the presentation’s title is. If it tells the audience what the speaker will talk about, then the presenter risks losing the audience even before he starts the speech. If the title creates curiosity, then the audience will sit down and listen. Creating interest with the title of the presentation makes the audience stick and get their curiosity done away with.

The next step is to look for an innovative way of grabbing the audience’s attention. The audience is seated to listen to an existing problem. Communicating this problem in a manner that grabs the audience’s attention in 45 seconds forces them to stick and listen to the presentation. If the problem grabs their attention, there is a high possibility of retaining the audience for the rest of the performance. The next step is to identify the main points of the presentation. The first three points are the critical points of the exhibition. It is not a good idea to go beyond 5points, but Dananjaya advocates for sticking to three main points. The last step in preparing for a presentation is to identify the method that will be employed when ending the speech. The audience remembers what they heard last as opposed to what they heard first. The presenter needs to look for a high ending to make an impactful presentation.

In my next presentation, I will ensure that I understand the message I want to deliver to the audience. I will also create a title that creates curiosity for my audience to ensure that they stick and listen to my presentation. As I introduce my presentation, I will look for the best method of ensuring that I get their attention within the first one minute. I will proceed to have a list of three main ideas and two additional points to support my arguments in the presentation. I will then look for an innovative method of ending the display using a concept that is familiar to the audience.

I would encourage another student to use these key points by Dananjaya to ensure that they deliver a perfect presentation. I would highly help my fellow students to prepare for a performance by first understanding the message they want to provide, creating a curious title, writing down three key points, and two additional points. I would also encourage my audience to look for a perfect ending that will ensure that the audience remember first what they heard last.
