One of the most critical questions readers can ask is, why is the film given the title Wit? Careful analysis of the film can tell how the title is connected to the content. The film Wit has matched the title with the content, and it is clear that Vivian values the concept of Wit in life and her profession as a poetry professor.

Indeed, the name of the film, Wit is connected to the content because the main character, Vivian, has a passion for poetry, and she has always valued the concept of Wit in her life and career (Edson 14). Vivian is a popular and charismatic poetry professor. In her teaching career, Vivian has focused mainly on studying how wittiness can be used in literature and life.

The film Wit tells the story of a professor, Vivian, who is a renowned professor of the seventh-century. In the play, we meet Vivian through her treatment, and final days b is suffering from metastatic ovarian cancer. She is an expert on metaphysical poet John Donne. She has learned many valuable lessons from John Donne’s poems such as “Death, Be Not Proud” of the “Holy Sonnets,” which is all about the use of Wit in literature and life (Edson 43). The film is related to the concept of Wit, and this is very clear because after Vivian becomes aware that she has cancer, and describes herself as “an unwitting accomplice” (Edson 87).

She argues that Donne’s scholarly work will provide her with a purposeful understanding of life. She has been diagnosed with untreatable cancer, and therefore, she continues to use lessons from Donne’s poetry, which she believes will help her to confront an escape the suffering through the use of witty language (Edson 76).

In conclusion, Vivian beliefs that Donne’s poems are full of wits, which can be used to fight life challenges and can help her to overcome the suffering she is facing because of ovarian cancer, which has affected her life and health. The film title Wit aligns with the content and theme of Wit. Vivian is a well-known professor of poetry, and in her life and teachings, she continuously uses the concept of Wit (Edson 34). As a teacher of literature, Vivian uses Wit and humor to deflect pain and suffering. She has high regard for the concept of Wit and intelligence behind the use of language. The film has showcased the will and positive attitude shown by Vivian to outwit death. Although she has a strong belief that Wit will help her to overcome suffering and endeavor in life, it is sad that she finally realizes that her determination and Wit cannot fight challenges and death.
