At the centre of this conflict is the common man or the worker who is oppressed by the very system they are fueling, with individuals forming groups to resist this totalitarian mode of government the governments employ state machinery to curb such organizations. Personal ambitions are brought to light, and their ideas are tested with the governments using their fears and insecurities to control the people, and ultimately sow the seed of disunity in opponents and opposing groups.

Change is characterized by an impoverished resistance that is monitored and infiltrated by the government to dismantle any meaningful progress; thus, the vehicle of a significant revolution is severely limited and scuttled at inception in many instances. The author effectively questions the ideals of totalitarianism against a background where humans are subjected to the whims of the state, the author George Orwell brings to light that individual and communal welfare take a backstage as the individual becomes, in essence, a value of what he can produce in a race of world domination amongst superpowers. The individual freedoms and aspirations are neglected as the state machinery views humans as a means of gaining an edge over its competitors. Marxist and communist ideologies take a backstage as it becomes apparent that in a game of power humans have become a commodity and power a new fetish which is desired and being traded with fear being peddled to ensure adherence to draconian rules.

The book 1984 by George Orwell, examines whether the bourgeois in this dystopia has not effectively evolved to assert themselves as the masters and control the populace while all the fronting that the government is on a collision track with its opponents. The author throws doubt on whether socialist ideals and communistic tendencies are any better or superior when compared to capitalistic ideation in a world where globalization is increasing encouraging production and consumerism. The author broaches that the ruling class effectively skews any change to their advantage and for any meaningful change in one’s estate and state one has to join the elites. In joining the elites, one has to betray communal welfare values. Idiocracy is examined on whether ideals that are based around acquisition of more material opulence, and power are bettering standards of living or whether the fetish attachment to materialism is what is driving the conflicts in the world and this is ultimately lowering the quality of life. The writer examines the vicious cycle where a system has to propagate ideologies that are oppressive to avoid being overtaken by others. 1984 by George Orwell question where one’s loyalties should lie is to the self, loved ones and family, the state or someone’s political affiliation or ideologies.
