Geographic Crime Analysis
There have been different crimes in the various beats within the city with the selected beats, in this case, being the central beat, Wentworth beat, Grand crossing beat, and the South Chicago beat. From the beat analysis, crime has been highly concentrated, showing that most of them are associated with a small proportion of places, offenders, and victims (Levine 24). Table 1, the total more serious offenses in the four beats were aggravated battery at 48, followed by Robbery at 42, criminal sexual assault at 11, and homicide 1st and 2nd degree being the least in frequency. According to Weisburd and Eck, the frequency of the crimes committed is essential for police resources (42). Also, the beat that has fewer incidences of crime is the Central with the beat not having any homicide case with fewer rates of aggravated battery compared to other beats.
Table 1: Beats and serious offenses frequency
On the other hand, South Chicago recorded the highest frequency of criminal activities totaling 38 with Robbery and aggravated battery being the highest. However, there was only one case of homicide happening in Grand Crossing beat. Therefore, focusing on the action of crime as well as the antisocial behavior and repeat victims, the most effective way of allocating resources is to reduce the crime (Telep and Weisburd 331). Besides, the understanding of what causes the high-frequency offenses helps with coming up with particular solutions in partnership with concerned partners and allows the police to reduce crime. Johnson notes that, by treating people equally and reasonably making decisions, the police department should encourage people to corporate and engage in community policing (768). Overall, reducing crime means to allocate resources based on the frequency of crime and ensure the fair treatment of victims and offenders.
