  1. Make a list of the biases. Generalizations and stereotypes about older people that you have seen or heard.  Which statements do you consider as myths? Which can frequently turn into discrimination? Have you known anyone who has been a victim of prejudice or discrimination based on old age?

Ageism refers to biases and stereotypes and discrimination against individuals, which is ages on a single trait which the age of the persons. This stereotype can be shown at both the individual and the institutional levels. Ageism includes stereotypes, myths, disdain, and many forms of discrimination. The stereotype may appear harmless to some people, but to others, it is going to have very adverse effects. This may intern make the older adults have negative views about themselves, and this is likely to have an impact on their health. Below are some of stereotypes, biases, and discrimination about ole people.

  1. People who work past 65 years are clogging the job pipelines and hence denying the young people jobs.
  2. It is not possible to treat old dog tricks.
  3. Older people are very sensitive
  4. There is nothing like age discrimination

The statement considered to be myths

The stamen on older people closing the workplace is a myth because the number that works after retirement is low, which accounts for about 15% of all the people who retire.  Additionally, most of the employers will prefer older people, especially where experience if highly needed. About being to teach older people, a new trick is a myth because there is rapid technology, for example, smartphone computers and other gadgets that they need to be taught. Gain is a myth that older people are too sensitive, which is not often the case. Retirement places are not always great places for people to retire as they are separated from their loved ones. Even if people lose memory when they are grown, they are likely this impact of overblown.

The statement considered to be discrimination

The phrase older people go there has been a form of discrimination against the senior members of the society. Therefore, this phrase implies that being around older people is undesirable. Against noting that older people are likely to have a health crisis is not true, and it is discriminatory since research establishes that the features of the homes and the community are the key determinants of the health of older people.

Yes.  I know a person how was discriminated against because of age in the workplace. The man was seeking employment as a part-time worker. However, even though h had everything it was required, he turned away because there were young people who were also seeking for the job even though they did not have the experience.

  1. How is children’s play influenced by gender roles? Think back to your childhood. How gendered were the toys and activities available to you? Do you remember gender expectations being conveyed to you through the approval or disapproval of your playtime choices?

Playing is a universal activity that helps children to explore themselves. The environment around them and offers an opportunity for them to test out different things. As children play, they learn the different social roles of boys and girls, and they are also able to learn how to interact with other children and adults in society. Through this early life., children can identify themselves as either being male or female, and the categorization lays the foundation for determining the beliefs that will acquire concerning what, whom, how, and where they will play. As a result of these beliefs, children will grow up knowing that there re games that are supposed to be played by young boys and others to be played by young girls. For example, the number of boys who plays video games is much higher in boys as compared to girls. Boys are exposed to games that depend on technology, unlike girls who are likely to be online to family riles such as cooking and taking care of kids.

During childhood, there was not the only difference in the playmates but also in the toys that were preferred. This has made children feel better when they play with toys that are considered appropriate for their gender. Girls played with a wide range of items, but boys preferred to play with toys that were deemed to be masculine.  In terms of the play toys, boys often played with toys for transportation such as cars and airplanes, weapons, building materials, and as they grow, they are likely to play using toys that are making a lot of noise such as car crashes. On the other hand, girls were likely to play with dolls or other gadgets that did not involve activities vigorously.

I remember when I was growing that girls are closely monitored as they played, unlike the boys who had the opportunity anytime, anywhere. Most of the time, girls were not expected to play in the evening, which was highly disapproved as they were expected to be at home.  However, the boys were free to lay even at night as long as where they were played was safe.

  1. Give a few examples of the feminization of poverty in wealthy nations. How is it the same ad or different in poorer nations?

The feminization of poverty refers to a situation where women are regarded as being poor than men in society. It means that women are likely to experience the rate of poverty at a disproportionately higher rate than men. His has increased in cases of wanted births, separation, divorce, poor nutrition for kids, and low education and wage discrimination of female workers.

For example, it has been portrayed that the highest rate of poverty occurs in a household that is led by single mothers. This also contributes to a high numbered child who lives in poverty as a result. Additionally, this phenomenon has been attributed to the high rate of unemployment of women in society. As a result, they have a decreased income. Additionally, the image of the traditional women is still persistent in modern society, when a woman is likely to be paid less for the work they do as compared to men.   Many employers still see women as not be able to work the same as men, and this makes them command lower pay leading to a higher rate of poverty.

This scenario is not different in poorer nations where any poverty has been made synonymous to women and children. This is because of the social state up, where women have very low education, large families with minimal support, sexually trafficked, and their children are malnutrition. In most of the poorer countries, there are fewer women who work because of the patriarchal societies where women are expected to remain at home and take care of the family. As a result, they have to depend on their husband for everything.  At times, when husbands are not willing to take care of the children, women are left alone struggling with them. This has made women be associated with poverty in poorer countries. Women also engage in economic activities with minimal returns and which services only the locality. Such activities primarily dealing with agricultural production and selling, which is profoundly affected by weather and economic condition, and this increases their level of poverty.
