How to write an effective essay: The introduction
The writing center workshop provided a practical explanation and exploration of the different aspects of writing process, but I was interested in learning how a good introduction can be written. The topic is ‘how to write a good introduction.’ The topic is related to what we are doing in class, as we are required to know how to write a good essay.
I chose to attend the workshop as I have a slight problem writing a good introduction, so I felt that a practical explanation could be of great help to me. Although I can write an introduction, it is not always as good as it should be. I felt that I needed more practice to help me get the aspect accurately.
I had a very nice experience as the educator took me through ‘how to write a good introduction’ with a lot of examples, making it easy for me to get the points. I did not know how to catch the attention of the reader, in my introduction, using a good introduction. The educator presented the ideas in such a professional yet easy to understand manner. He practically broke down points on the whiteboard, making it easy to understand.
I learnt that a good introduction makes the whole essay easier to write. Additionally, it helps the writer to organize his ideas well. The use of grabbers in the introduction catches the attention of the reader and help the reader to want to look deeper into the content or what is in the body. This can be achieved by the use of a joke, proverb, or a quote, anecdote, a surprising fact, or a curiosity clause.
In conclusion, I will use the experience to enhance my essay writing skills by writing a catchy introduction so that people can read my work. I have learnt that a weak introduction makes the essay boring for the reader. The skills gotten here will make me pass my writing examinations!
