Question 1

A hypervisor is a process that builds and runs virtual machines. It lets one host computer to withstand more than one guest virtual machines by effectively sharing its resources, like memory and processor. There are two types of hypervisors. The first one is known as a bare-metal hypervisor, which runs directly on the master computer hardware. The second type is the ‘hosted’, this runs on an operating system just like any other computer program. Though virtual machines run on one physical hardware, they are still rationally separated from each other. It goes without saying that if one virtual machine encounters an error or malware attack, it extends to the other virtual machines as well.

As much as hypervisors are considered more secure than containers through some measures, it does not guarantee that there aren’t any security worries linked with the hypervisor. For example, hackers can create malware and rootkits that install themselves as hypervisor underneath the operating system. It is known as hyper jacking, it is a process that can be difficult to identify, and malware could cut off operations of the operating system like inputting of passwords without an anti-malware software detecting it because the malware runs underneath the operating system. It is still in debate if it will be possible to identify a hypervisor-based rootkit.

The hypervisor puts an extra layer on top of the hardware operating system so that it can plan and create a path for system requests from concurrently executing applications running from multiple guests. It is a difficult task to ensure everything gets to its rightful place at the right time without interruption. The virtual environment, while built on software, can only live within the physical hardware provided. Memory, disk storage, and CPU are shared among several virtual machines. Each virtual machine is allocated with the specific resources as per its needs. The number of resources available as per the virtual machine is not automatically available.

The virtualization software requires resources too. They are thus limiting the available ones for the various virtual machines. The funds are also not shared equitably but are distributed according to the preprogrammed settings and policies. Most fundamentally, virtualization is used to attain better operation, and plight resources are the most effective way to make this happen. When the system operations approach 100%, the same reasoning rule that operating systems use for multiple processes is put in place. One or more of the virtual machines must wait. It is automatic that at any particular point, the guest system may not be capable of attaining 100% CPU use. That has no difference with the process lacking 100% of the available CPU utilization.

The hypervisor transpicuous exchanges the guest’s memory out of its physical mind onto disk memory. To acquire the part swapped out, the hypervisor exchanges it back in, just like usual operating-system-level exchanging. Problems come up because of non-selective trading at the hypervisor level, which severely degrades the performance.
