Virtual Leadership

Over the last few weeks, virtual leadership has been at the forefront of conducting business activities. At these dire times, the World Health Organization has overstated that Covid-19 is a global emergency that requires all agencies involved to take the necessary safety measures and precaution to fight this pandemic.  Therefore, there is a need to hire remote workers, which is cost-effective and reduces the chances of corona infection as well. Taylor (2020) states that there is a new dawn of virtual leadership when compared to the old traditional methods of administration. While active management depends on remote workers’ cooperation, there is a need to look at the comparison between strategies that a virtual leader uses and those of traditional leaders..

There are several strategies to compare a virtual leader and a traditional leader delegating duty in person. Traditional workplace involves teams and managers carrying out various responsibilities at the actual company site. On the other hand, virtual leadership involves online platforms connecting remote teams with their leaders far away from the company site. An excellent virtual leader will organize several online meetings that will foster the development of creative and innovative ideas (Baldacci, 2019). On the other hand, traditional leadership involves a manager making several routine checks on their teams to ensure maximum performance as well as deliver feedback. Moreover, traditional workplace culture allows employees and managers to interact since they are in the same geographical position freely. However, new cutting-edge technology such as Zoom has helped organizations use video conferencing to share meetings as well as mobile applications that monitor employees’ work progress remotely.

In conclusion, I have seen several changes in leadership over the last few weeks. Virtual leaders have decided to hold remote team members accountable. The virtual leaders have implemented policies that clarify employee roles and established milestones to review progress and the same time of required feedback. All in all, virtual leadership can be useful, just like the traditional techniques of leadership.
