IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATION SKILLS FOR STUDENTS
Communication skills are important for students in their educational, professional, and social life. Students need to have basic communication skills to help them learn more from their teachers. Communication skills help students listen and understand what the teacher’s point of view. Good communication skills also help students ask questions without fear; thus, they are able to understand concepts better and gain more knowledge (Sharma, 2017). Teachers can also understand where students are confused, then they are able to adapt better teaching styles to help the students score high grades.
Students also need communication skills to build good relations with fellow students, teachers, and other people. Good communication skills helps students build friendship with other students who can help them in studying and other activities (Sharma, 2017). When students have friends at school, they find school life more interesting and learning becomes easier. Communication skills also help students improve their ability to understand each other’s feelings. Understanding other people’s feeling help students co-exist harmoniously with each other. Communication skills also help students enhance memory and presence of mind which helps in learning and passing exams.
Good communication skills also help students in the professional field and career development. Ideal communication skills are important in interviews and good professional relationship with others in the workplace. Communication skills also improve collaborative attitude and enhancement of teamwork. Students need communication skills to actively engage in debates, discussions, and delivering speeches and presentations (Kamal, 2017). Therefore, communication skills are needed by students in school, workplace, personal development, and building cohesive relationships with other members of the society.
