Importance of Psychology
What has drawn me into the field of psychology is the desire for those in mental health problems by explaining their behaviours and the human mind. There are five major theories in the field of psychology which include: behavioural approach, biological approach, psychodynamic approach, humanistic approach and cognitive approach. I find behavioural perspective approach theory the most interesting because it focuses about external stimuli influencing the way people behave and emphasis that one can be trained to act in a certain way which objects the free will behavior (Meichenbaum, 2017). Behaviours are believed to be learnt through punishment and reinforcements. Behavioural approach theory is most effective when one does not care about how others will think as long as you achieve the desired behavior. This theory affects even how we behave on every our everyday activities, for instance, the behavior of following the rules of the road when driving. Therefore, human behavior is turned away like a machine unwillingly through delving on the feelings and thoughts. The future of this field is driven by greater demand for services in mental health centres, social services agencies, hospitals and schools. Moreso, the field of industrial-organizational psychologist which is the fast-growing in the United States which focuses on workplace behaviours when there needs to hire or retain employees.
