Intent: Research about Mental Health in Youth Criminal Court
I want to apply to be part of the team researching understanding how the mental needs are identified and addressed in Toronto downtown youth criminal court. Following the advertisement of the Institution on the purpose of the research, I would like to be part of the team. I have the experience based on my prior knowledge concerning the mental health in youth criminal courts. My past research is a typical continuation of the current exercise. If selected, I would deliver a detailed and comprehensive analysis that is guided under the following criteria.
Objectives of the Study
The main objectives of the research are to check if the right systems are applied to ensure moral support for the criminal youths while at the same time championing the accountability of them becoming the right persons in the future. It is vital to understand the needs of young persons who have different and specific needs compared to adults. Needs to the youth is to say, the correctional procedure should focus on making these individuals be better persons in the future contrary to their juvenile mistakes. l Youths are part of society, and they have a critical responsibility of society continuation.
The second objective is to understand the need to concentrate on developing different mechanisms for ensuring rehabilitation programs for youth criminals. As much as the law advocates for correctional procedures, a significant number of youths have not regained entirely for future lives. Therefore, there is a need for reevaluating the methods and procedures used in the rehabilitation of criminal juveniles. The idea is not to discourage existing systems but to improve mental health care for illegal youths. The various methods should follow these guidelines:
- Correct procedures of arrests, which include: caution, warning, or recommendation for community service.
- There must be a valid reason for the arrest.
- When mentioning the case, the youth may be bailed off or remanded in the correct environment.
- The first court appearance must be proved with a serious repetition of offenses.
- After judgment and confirmation of guilt, the punishment delivered should focus on rehabilitating the youth, especially if the criminal child is under the age of 18 years.
The success of the youths’ mental health after the sentence will depend on the collaboration of the correctional facility, their family members, and the community
Data Collection
.
Data is collected by o
bserving the day to day correctional proceedings in Toronto’s downtown youth criminal court. Concern should be emphasized on which basis the criminal court is delivering justice. This includes the bail terms and the time limit for providing justice. Also, records about court judgments to different youths will provide the real evidence of ensuring full consideration of law and order. Furthermore, it will be necessary to interview some of the convicted youths to determine their real life. They are one of the first-hand source information during the research. While talking, there is a need to note down if there was any abuse of rights and freedom of the youths convicted. Judgment delivered should be proofed of giving room for rehabilitation through the right correctional procedures.
Recommendations
The research must be summarized with various recommendations. There should be complete accountability for justice to all youths. Care should be taken on all officers who may have abused their power during arrests. Also, wrongly convicted juveniles should have their cases reviewed. Finally, justice should be offered based on offense with zero favoritism like racism.
