Jewish culture, religion, and stereotype

Despite their common origin, the Jewish culture in the United States differs slightly from that from the state of Israel. Jews from Eastern Europe adopted a different lifestyle as they settled in the American metropolis, but kinships and frequent crises have been the bond retaining further divergent paths (Fiske, 2017). Jewish culture uses matchmakers to pair up marriage partners. The process is elaborate, and matchmakers identify potential partners from catalogs based on family ties, education, business partnerships, and other social relation (Caplan, 2020). Further, boys and girls are kept separate until marriage to minimize the chances of premarital sex. Another significant celebration is the Hanukkah festival, also known as the festival of the lights. This celebration commemorates, among other things, their victory over the Greeks who had tried to wage an assimilation onslaught against them.

The Jews living in the United States, especially in the urban areas, are separated from each other by a gulf of culture, political, class, religion, and stereotypes. Judaism guides the Jewish culture because it leads to adherence to the beliefs and practice among the Jewish. The Jewish religion is monotheistic because of their faith in one powerful God (Caplan, 2020). The Jewish have persistently maintained their religious beliefs and customs that are distinct from other Christians in the world. They utilize Judaism with the basis of their teaching coming from the Torah in the Bible. Hasidic Judaism governs every facet of its member’s life. They follow 613 commandments that guide their daily lives from worship, kosher food, clothing, grooming, marriage, and interactions with the outer world (Fiske, 2017). Every book written in Hebrew is treated as factual and indisputable

The American Jewish have been objects of anti-Semitic stereotypes since their time of migration to America and the adoption of American culture (Crisp et al., 2018). Most of the young American Jewish belief that they are American in contrast to their parents who came from the Old World. The American Jewish have a stereotype that wealth and refinement made them real American compared to the Jewish from Eastern Europe who are working-class (Crisp et al., 2018). Stereotypes are linked to gender, and Jewish women are more likely to be affected more with the imagination than the Jewish men. Another stereotype is that all Jewish came from Israel and that an individual has to be Jewish to be able to profess Judaism.
