Leadership Philosophy based on Data Visualization and Chinese Dance
One leadership philosophy that has influenced my perspective about leadership has to do with the information I gained from the data visualization. I saw the need to focus on the actions and behaviors of a leader as opposed to their characteristics or traits. More specifically is the suggestion that leaders should be sensitive to the people they lead to the point that they conform to the signals the people give and play the role placed upon them by others. These expectations can be shaped by contextual factors, leadership culture, and values as well as through training sessions and modeling by more experienced leaders. Therefore, leadership styles should stimulate participation and open communication as this will determine whether a strategy implementation will succeed or not. It comes into play in executing strategies especially in a competitive business environment or dynamic political situation that needs a broader approach to balance between the various variables in a particular situation.
I could not help but think of the value traditional forms of art have on our current world in terms of the relevance of the message it carries and the strong desire to see a change in society. In that case, the Chinese classical music delivers a common countercultural message in mainstream pop culture of main characters challenging the status quo. In so doing, it is able to
influence the target audience through use techniques such as rhythm, lyrics, and art of
performance. Underlying its complex structure and rhythmic patterns are the profound cultural
message it communicates to a given audience. As such, while it differs from other genres of music, especially in Western cultures, it shares a common goal of engaging and informing the
audience.
I plan to use the lessons learned about leadership in applying fair and consistent principles to guide my decision making in a way that promotes authentic leadership. With the understanding that leadership is a privilege which involves the responsibility to inspire others, I will borrow concepts from various leadership models and styles to continually shape and refine my personal leadership style so as to have a great positive impact on the people and achieve the vision and goals of a team. Overall, the exercise was a whole new experience for me as it had an impact on my perspective on the whole issue. I got to understand why it was important to follow the legal and practical steps presented by the scenarios to structure a company with the aim of win-win for all concerned parties. Nonetheless, it was an exciting process of data visualization and participating in the Chinese traditional act of dance.
